I am looking for Thomas Stonerīs 2nd wifeīs surname.
Thomas Stoner was born ca 1803 in Cowfold Sussex. He married Harriet Hole on 03.02.1839 St Nicholas Brighton Sussex she was born ca 1806 in Middlesex. Harriet Hole died 1845 in Steyning Sussex.
Thomas Stoner then remarried 1846 in Steyning Sussex. His 2nd wifeīs name was Caroline who was born in Cowfold 1807.
Was she married before? What was her Surname when she and Thomas married in 1846?
I have searched in FreeBMD, but there is no female name entry, ref: 1q 1846 Steyning 7 575
Can anyone help further.

I have the information from researching backwards from my motherīs family line.
Frederick Charles Snook married Charlotte Stoner born 1860 in Lambeth Her father was Alfred Stoner born 1834 in Lambeth. Parents of Alfred Stoner were Thomas and Harriet born Marylebone 1806
I found them on FamilySearch.
Later, before he was married Alfred lived with parents Thomas and Caroline Stoner.

His 2nd wifeīs name was Caroline who was born in Cowfold 1807.
What makes you think she was born in Cowfold? Her birthplace is given as Brighton in each of the censuses in which I can see her as Thomas' wife/widow:
1851: HO107/1566/231/33 1861: RG9/582/107/17 1871: RG10/1062/89/16 1881: RG11/1063/112/7

Hello Anna - I'd just got to the same spot.
There are a lot of ?, aren't there. In 1841 the mother is Harriet. How does Muffin know where she was born?
They were living in Newington/Lambeth in 1841 and 1851, and the youngest child William had been born there in 1842. Although there is certainly a death for Harriet Stoner in Steyning in 1845, why there if they were living in Newington ? On the 1841 there is a Stoner family in Upper Beeding, Steyning, which includes a Harriet Might be her
The marriage Muffin mentions in Steyning was to an Elizabeth Baker, no middle or other name mentioned, and I can't see a marriage between a Thomas Stoner and a Caroline, so maybe they didn't marry ?

I followed Harriet up again on Family Search and found her as
Harriet Mary Hole born 18.10.1806 Westminster, baptized 31.07.1808 in Soho Westminster.
A Harriet Hole married Thomas Stoner 03.09.1839 in St Nicholas Brighton Sussex. Also Harriet's husband Thomas was born in Sussex, maybe she was a domestic help in Brighton
Maybe itīs a "red herring" again

I have just become this message
Subject : Re - Charlotte Stoner
Yes, Thomas baptised 29/5/1803 Cowfold, died 23 August 1870, St Saviour district, buried New Cross. Caroline, born same time, died 21 October 1886, same place.
Thomas' parents were Thomas Stoner of Lower Beeding/Cowfold, died 26/2/1849, buried Cowfold, and Barbara Buckwell, born about 1778, died 3/8/1849, buried Cowfold.
So not all "red herrings" or

Maybe this one is related to the other Stoners.
Thank you for the link ( worked without the 2008 ending!)

Apologies www.stoner.org.uk/stoner2008
Yes, I believe she's the best bet for Thomas's 'wife', although his brother Edward also married a Field but not until 1830, Lambeth.
Still a bit funny though.
If Thomas Stoner married Harriet Hole in 1839 and Caroline before 1851, who is the mother of Thomas Field c.1826 and Alfred c.1836?
And Ancestry has the following (though I can't see the details)
London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 Birth, Marriage & Death . Preview Name: Alfred Stoner County: Middlesex Name: Alfred Stoner Mother: Caroline Stoner Father: Thomas Stoner
I know it says Middlesex not Surrey but, if relevant, it has Caroline as mother before Harriett leaves the scene.
Worth more thought!

Many thanks for those, Anna. That tidies some things up.
I'm beginning to think that the 1841 census saying Harriett was wrong. They have a child Lewis Thomas 1838, and the tree has a Lewis Charles 1815 and Lewis Edward 1869 which suggests it might be the right family.
But I need to dispose of Harriet Hole somehow!
