Many thanks for those, Anna. That tidies some things up.
I'm beginning to think that the 1841 census saying Harriett was wrong. They have a child Lewis Thomas 1838, and the tree has a Lewis Charles 1815 and Lewis Edward 1869 which suggests it might be the right family.
Lewis Thomas STONER was baptised 29 Aug 1838 St Mary at Lambeth, son of Edward (a carpenter) and Louisa

Have you found Henry Lewis STONER, bap 23 Jun 1839 St John the Evangelist Lambeth, son of Thomas and Caroline? (NB a Henry Lewis STONER died Jun qtr 1842 Brighton). I think he must be the 2 yr old "Lewis" who is with Thomas & Harriet (I agree she's likely to be Caroline) in 1841.

Edward, Alfred's brother, has a Thomas 2 in 1841 (Ancestry Stones) so that must be Lewis Thomas, and Henry Lewis fits as Thomas's Lewis. I had the birth and death but not the parents.
In 1851 Alfred's daughter Elizabeth was visiting Edward but at least that says niece so you know where you are.
The two families had other Lambeth births.
Edward/Louisa Sophia 1833/4 and probably Tom Buckwell 4Q1844 Lambeth 4 329 Edwin John 3Q1847 Lambeth 4 295
Thomas/Caroline Thomas Field 30/7/1826 William (maybe William Edward) 1841/2 - not obvious in BMD
Betsy Barbary 3Q1838 Lambeth 4 249 must be part of these families. Granny was Barbara or Barbary.
Perhaps I should get to the Metropolitan Archives and check out the Lambeth PRs!
Thanks for your help. As you may have seen at www.stoner.org.uk/stoner2008 I'm trying to sort out the various Stoner threads. I've lots of data to add and a long way to go!
Alan
