Dear Rootschatters
I've come across this tricky transcription of a birth place and wonder if any one can make any sense of it.
It is transcribed on Ancestry as "Leonlock" but I can't find any reference to a place of that name in Mayo.
It refers to John Roddy, born 1854, who is listed in the 1891 census living in Shenstone in Staffordshire.
Any suggestions gratefully received,
regards

Dear Pauline and Heywood
Thank you very much for your input on this one, especially the interesting suggestion about Leveelick. I will follow this one up, and of course the obvious thing to do will be to get John's marriage certificate.
Will let you know what I discover.
regards

Spot on Heywood!
Have received the marriage certificate of John Roddy and Lucy Bishton, and it shows John's father as Dominick Roddy, blacksmith.
Have also discovered a great little website eastmayo.org that lists Kilmovee marriages along with other things. (Leveelick is in the township of Kilmovee.) And there listed is a Dominick Roddy.
Dare I think that this could be the one?
There is also a list of births which starts in 1854 - not quite early enough for John.

My father and my paternal grandfather, both called Michael Roddy, were born in the small townland of Leveelick, parish of Kilmovee, county Mayo. My great grandfather, who lived in the same townland, was called Dominick. I have been collecting information on our family history for a long time and in recent years I have computerised much of it.
Until 2005, I had the name of only one sibling of my grandfather Michael and she was called Sarah. Then, in 2005, I responded to an old internet query, dated 2002, and posted by a UK resident, a Ms. B.S.. The query concerned John Roddy, born in Leveelick, Kilmovee. To cut a longer story short, this lady had paid for a professional genealogical service in Ireland to research her family history, and she kindly allowed me to view the resulting family tree. According to this, my grandfather Michael had five siblings; two male and three female, including Sarah. One of the males was John, in whom you are interested. He was the great-grandfather of this Lady, B.S.. I do not know if you have any information about or contact with B.S.. I have not been in contact with her since 2005.
So, if the information above is correct, John would have been my grand-uncle. As I mentioned above, I have quite a lot of information on the family, especially on the descendants of my grandather Michael. If you would wish, I would be happy to share my information with you.

Dear Eala
Thank you very much for getting in touch, and welcome to Rootschat.
I am investigating the Roddy family on behalf of a friend who is the great granddaughter of John Roddy (born 1854, married Lucy Bishton), and the granddaughter of Oliver John Roddy, born 1887.
So, am I right in thinking that your g grandfather Michael Roddy is the brother of John Roddy, born 1854?
I am not in contact with BS.
I would be delighted to receive any information about this family that you would be generous enough to share.
regards
KN

Dear K.N.,
Thanks for your reply! Based on the information from B.S., which she was given by the genealogical service that she used, my paternal grandfather Michael was a brother of John Roddy. The basic information on the Roddy family that i have is organised by using an application called Mac Reunion, an application for Apple Mac computers. I could only send that to you electronically, if you have the same application on a Mac computer, which is probably unlikely. The best and fastest solution, therefore, would be to send you by snail mail a chart (or charts), printed from the application. I will be happy to do so, but will need your postal address, which you could send me by private message, via rootschat. (I presume, as a first-time user of rootschat, that this is possible}. Please note that the Michael Roddy in question is my grandfather, not my great grandfather. I retired two years ago, so am what is referred to as a senior citizen!

Dear Eala
Haven't heard anything from you - maybe my personal message to you was lost on the way, or maybe you haven't made enough posts on RootsChat to view PMs?
Either way, my PM to you was a resounding 'yes please', I'd love to see the research that you kindly offered to share. Could you try to send me a PM, with your email address then I'll be able to contact you.
