Book Club?
« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 12:21 UTC (UK) »

I was wondering if there would be any interest in starting a section on Roots Chat for a book section?

Each book could have its own seperate thread where people write a review of the book they've been reading, and others could find out if a book might be useful to them or not?

I don't mean the latest James Herbert or Stephen King novel, but bopks people read related to heir family research.

For example, I'm currently reading a book called something like 'The Agriculrural Labourer in Victorian Times; which I'm finding very interesting, and useful in understanding something about the life of some of my 'Ag Labs'...

That book you're reading sounds good anyway!  I like the idea...would be nice to have a thread where you could have a rummage for good titles regarding family research...for all those times we hit those brickwalls Smiley

Mike

Sounds a good idea, don't think I saw your thread first time round, but now I've put your blog into Favourites, so hope to read more reviews of appropriate books.

Not sure why it's been moved tbh - the topic is books about family history - the idea is that people can review any on-topic books they've read and think others would be interested in...

'The Lighter Side' is for: Yep, as the title suggests, this board is for totally "off topic" posts, where you can discuss almost anything you like. Enjoy! Click the link above to enter. Postings on this board do not count in your number of posts, and postings over a month or so old will expire

it's not going to be much of a resource if posts vanish after a month, plus it's totally on-topic Huh

Actually, Mike, this is where posts discussing TV series like WDYTYA and the Radio 4 series Tracing Your Roots are put.

The description of the Lighter Side is:

Quote
In the Lighter Side post your topics that are on the "Lighter Side" of your hobby of Local History or Genealogy.

Resources are not without limit.  It is not possible to set up boards for every subject of interest.  At the moment, there are no plans to expand on what we have.
