Lilian SEABROOK
« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 15:01 UTC (UK) »

Hello!
I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question, but i want to make sure i've got it right! My great grandmother was Lilian Elizabeth Seabrook born Apr 1881 in Bedmond, Hertfordshire. I have been looking at birth records and i have found a Lilian Elizabeth Seabrook but it's registered in 1881  Jul, Aug, Sep (vol 3a p 491). I was just wondering whether it was normal to register a childs birth quite some time after, in this case at least 2 months after! Many thanks in advance for you help!

Not normal, but not extraordinary either.

Buy the certificate, and see what it says  Smiley

Im not sure if you're aware, but when you order a certificate from the GRO, you can ask for "Reference checking", and the staff at the GRO will check the certificate against facts that you supply (mother's and father's names, DOB, etc), and if the facts don't match, they won't issue the certificate, and they refund £4 of the £7 fee.  However, you should only use this if you are sure of the facts, because people have had the right certificates rejected, because they haven't exactly matched the facts supplied.

6 weeks is allowed to register the birth, so an April birth could very easily be recorded in May - but the next Quarter as you have found ??
