Richard Gard
« on: Friday 03 July 09 19:12 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Can anyone help me knock down one of my brickwalls please?

I am trying to find Richard Gard in the 1841 census without any luck.  I know he died in May 1841 and I believe he would have been living in Deal at the time.

I have not been able to find out much at all about the Gard family and I suspect Richard may not have been born in Kent.  Whilst I know the 1841 wont tell me where he was born, it may confirm that he wasn't born in the county.

He was 74 at the time of his death so would have been born c1767.

I'm really hoping someone may have a little more luck than I have.

Thanks in advance.

Hi KPM

The 1841 census wasn't taken until June Wink

Hi KPM

There seems to be one GARD family in Deal, early 1800s.
Four Baptisms of children of Richard & Susanna, & three Burials.

Would you like the details, they might help?

Hi Casalguidi

Of course - that explains why I cant find him - that was a bit of bad luck Roll Eyes

Hi Betty

I have managed to find the children and burials for Richard and Susanna thank you - just need to find out more about Richard now.  Gard seems to be a popular name in Cornwall at the time Richard was born so I'm wondering if that was where he originated from.

Perhaps the death certificate will help - I know it wont give a place of birth but may hold another clue.

Thank you both for your help
