census look-up 1871 Nottingham for James Hefford

would like to find the details of James Hefford born about 1870 (aged 31 in 1901) in 1871 - have totally failed to find him in 1881 but in 1901 he is in Nottingham giving his place of birth as Nottingham

Your James seems a little uncertain about his age, as this is him and wife Martha in 1891

James Hefford married Martha Bruell at Radford St Peter 25/12/1890 (source Notts FHS marriage index). Getting the certificate wold confirm their father's names.

Thank you yet again Heather - you are a star.  James dosen't seem to be the only one not sure about his age - Martha says she is 28 in 1901 - and I can't find her in 1881 either.  I shall take your suggestion and apply for the marriage certificate

I have just found them in 1881 - Hefford was spelt Hepford - the clue of father Henry enabled me to do this - James now recons he is 19!
