Belgard House, Ordnance survey map, family photos
« on: Sunday 09 December 07 17:11 UTC (UK) »

I recently bought a large map of Kildare (Keathy and Ougherany) from1910, from Birmingham Rag Market. The map centres on Belgard House and it's land which have been picked out in flourescent marker.
On the same stall there are lots of family photos going back to the 20s, which apparently belong to the same family there are also some group photographs of surgeons in Dublin. The name Adams appears somewhere on the photos.
It has been bothering me that this could be the last chance someone may have to find these items before they get scattered to the wind, as it were, if anyone has a family connection to Belgard House maybe I can help you out!

Hello cad,

Are the family photographs still at the Birmingham Rag Market?

It might be a good idea, if you've not been contacted by anyone who may be connected to the people in the pictures, to contact the Local Studies, Genealogy and Archives Dept., of Kildare Library and Arts Service which is located at Riverbank, Main Street, Newbridge. Co. Kildare.

If the library is interested I feel it would make more sense for the items to be located there rather than in Birmingham as many people use Co. Library Local Study Departments when researching their family trees.

Contact details are in this link ... www.kildare.ie/library/Archives.asp

Thanks for the reply, I'm afraid it's all been dispersed now although I still have the map.

Hi,

I wonder if you are referring to the old Belgard Castle (House) on the Belgard Road, near Newlands Cross.  This is now a Cement Roadstone premises and although referred to as a castle, the building looks more like a large house.

If you go to http://www.askaboutireland.ie/show_narrative_page.do?page_id=998 there is some history on the house and its past owners, including a Dr. Kennedy.  There is also a photo of the actual building.

While this house is in Dublin, it it out near Kildare.  I wonder if this is the property you're referring to.

Cheers
