Hello,
I have recently been given some papers which I'm told show part of the family line further back than I have at present reached.
The papers show,
Mary Buckley m William Johnson 30 mar 1775 Denton parish Sussex
Mary Johnson m John Balcombe  7 feb 1809 Newhaven Sussex
then in pencil.
John perhaps married previously to Charity who died in 1808 leaving four children??
At present all of my research is done on the internet but I can only go back to 1830s in Sussex,
is there a site that I could subscribe to that would take me back further with the Sussex records?
I would be grateful for any advice.
Vee.

p.s. What a super site this one is..

Hi Vee,
I would like to find Mary Johnson's siblings, perhaps also born in Denton parish, Newhaven.
Which of John and Mary Balcombe's grandchildren are you researching?  John died in 1847, and the family was split up in 1853.  Mary took on the children until her demise in 1864.

As yet, there has been no trace of Charity's children who survived her.  There were a number of baptisms in Arlington parish, before they came to Newhaven.  Their two young sons; William and Henry, were sadly drowned while out on a boat trip in 1805.  The death of Charity in 1808 meant that the family broke up thereafter.

My second cousins & I are looking into John Balcomb(e) at present.  I believe that he was born in 1867.  Another of the same name was born in 1869 - and that is where the confusion arises!  It would be good to know whether John was a Bach. or a Widr. in 1809 and to find the bond for Phoebe Geering's bb child.

Hi Velma and Jox,
This is one that almost slipped by me, I too am interested in the surname Balcombe, in fact I believe that I may be one of the cousins mentioned above, I cannot add to what Jox has already said, but will gladly help if I can.

Will watch this space with interest.

Hi jox and dbee7,
Thanks for your offers of help and interest, sorry i have not come back sooner but we have all had colds and are just getting back to normal here.
Over Christmas we spent time with relatives and managed to gather lots of useful information, the family seem to think that the Johnson/Buckley/Balcomb connection is probably not part of our family search. Some of the items given to us have fitted well, others have not.
My brother thinks that the person who put it all together, his surname was Taylor, perhaps did bits of research for friends etc and just kept everything together.
If we find otherwise and prove a link, I will post our findins here.

Hi David, I notice you are interested in Balcombe in sussex. My GG Grandfather was thomas Balcombe from Laughton Sussex. I am interested in finding more information on his father Richard 1769, his father was John 1741, who was married to Mary Pollard. Also interested in Thomas Balcombe 1765 and William 1770, I think they may be connected.
