Hello from Australia,
I'm researching a girlfriend's maternal tree and would like a bit of help please.
John Quinten Kane was the son of an Irish immigrant, Patrick Kane. Records show some dropping of the 'O' for political/social reasons.
JQK was born in Scotland: 1881, 15 June at 1.45am at 30, Scott Street, Galashiels.
Patrick was a "Butter & Egg Merchant" and his wife was Susan Harkin[s]. They were married in Bannagher, ? Co Galway, Ireland in 1878.
My question at this point is: how many children did they have?
JQK married a Mary Jane Quinn/Sweeny in March of 1917 in Mary Hill, Glasgow. They had a first child i think called Joseph but i have some doubt if he was JQK's child. I checked the English BMD Index and found no Joseph [now] O'Kane: the couple had moved to Mile End Town at some point between 1917 and 1922 when they sailed to Western Australia. The passenger list of the 'Barrabool', shows the family of four: JO'Kane, wife Mrs Mary, and sons, Joseph, 2 years, and John Michael age 1.
My question here is: Was Joseph born in England as was younger bro John Michael (Sep 6, 1921, Mothers' Home, 396 Commercial Road) or was he born in Scotland?
Kind regards, Julie
