Geelong/Colac Hospital NamesCOMPLETED
« on: Sunday 14 December 08 00:26 UTC (UK) »

Hello all,

I have found two Consedine/Considine births from "The Argus" on line but cannot decipher the names of the hospitals.

The first one is Thomas Edward Considine born 8 Aug 1920 at
Quisiemma Private Hospital. Can any one help with this name? (This child died aged 6)

Then I have a daughter to James A Consedine and Lucy, nee Fox, born 24 May 1926 at
Koonara Private Hospital, Geelong
I have no idea of  the name of this child

Any ideas most appreciated.
Thank you
Jean

Hi Jean,
The second of your articles.
The birth notice does not say the name of the child.
The Victorian indexes do not reach this far for births so not easy to find out.
Koonara was obviously a private hospital in the Geelong Region.

The other entry, I am not easily able to find online so can't help with the hospital name.

Can you give the parameters you successsfully used in searching to make it a bit easier Wink

OK,
I've found it now.
The paper was published 4th Sept 1920.
The birth was 6th August 1920
The notice is for a birth to a Mr. Martin E.  and Mrs. Considine [nee Maurine  Kealy]
a son Thomas Edward
At QUISIANA Private hospital.
This was located at Dandenong Rd. Windsor Victoria.
This is a suburb of Melbourne.

Hi

Googling finds reference to another birth that took place at Koonara, Sister Smythes private hospital in Yarra Street Geelong.  I'm thinking that Sister Smythe was possibly a midwife and that Koonara was probably the name of the property in Yarra St where she lived.

Hello Sue,
I found the birth notice for Thomas Edward Considine in the "Argus", Saturday 4 September, 1920, Page 13

and it reads: Considine, (nee Maurine Kealy), On the 8th Aug at Q?Huh private hospital to Mr and Mrs Martin E Considine - a son (Thomas Edward)

1920 was the year I expected

Yet you have found another reference???

Thank you for the spelling of the name of the hospital.

Thank You Andy,

The names of private hospitals have probably long disappeared.

I was born in a private hospital - it is now an ordinary address in Christchurch.

I was searching for straws.

Hi Jean,
I have no idea why I wrote 1921 instead of 1920 Huh
I have amended it on my post.
The extract comes from
http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home
Putting in the unusual name of Maurine Kealy for searching brings up a little article too.

Again, thank you for your input.
I am having great fun going through these newspapers - especially as I am finding facts that I did not have before.

Regards
