Watford Burial 1901 - Ruth HARRISON
« on: Sunday 14 December 08 13:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi Everyone

I ama still banging on about my GGM Ruth Harrison (nee Bradshaw) who died in Watford Hospital (3a 398) Q1 1901. aged 31.
I am not local to Watford and was wondering if anyone could let me know if there was a general cemetery in that area where she may have been buried or perhaps give me a link to somewhere that may help.

The family were boat people and scattered about the country although I am aware that  there were some of them in Richmansworth around then.

Many thanks

Gu

Hi

I'm assuming your GGM died in the Watford Cottage Hospital formerly known as the District Hospital although I'm not sure when it changed names.

If so, this was in Vicarage Road Watford, incidentally where I was born, Smiley & there is a large public cemetery in the same, Vicarage Road.

If you have a look at Watford Council website they do have contact details for inquiries about the cemetery.

As your family were possibly on the Grand Union in Rickmansworth at the time, just in case, there is also a cemetery in Chorleywood Road Rickmansworth. Three Rivers Council website will have their contact details I am sure.

Hope this helps in some way.

Just a small correction,Watford Cottage Hospital was in Rickmansworth road, and was later rebuilt and the name changed to Watford Peace Memorial Hospital in memory of those that fell in the 1st World War.The one in Vicarage Road was until at least 1913 (and probably later)the Watford Union workhouse, later becoming Shrodells hospital and then Watford General.
However the Vicarage road cemetary is still most likely and I have found the staff there very helpful.Regards,Pete Cool
