Christopher TAAFFE
« on: Wednesday 17 December 08 09:16 GMT (UK) »

Hello,
Does anyone have any info on a Christopher TAAFFE of Rockwood, Roscommon, circa 1820s, please?  I have  references to him in memorials in the Registry of Deeds, Dublin, but nothing further.

Regards,

Alex

My research is not into this individual per se, rather his connection as landlord/agent to my ancestors. He would appear to have extensive interests as a landlord and reps/agent if he is the same individual referred to in the Griffiths valuation of 1856/7.

The best source I have found to date :-

     griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

Hope this may be of some help.

My apologies,  Rockwood actually is within the Athleague district for research purposes.

Many thanks for the link to the Griffith's Valuation website. I have used the Irish Ancestors search facility for Griffith's previously, but the 'ask about Ireland' site seems much better.
Like yourself, Christopher Taaffe is not my main subject of interest, but the reference I saw also indicated that he was a landowner.
Separately, I saw a report of a court case in the Freeman's Journal for July 1852 which mentioned that Taaffe's land had been the subject of a Chancery case since 1813. However this land appeared to be in Co Mayo, so I am not sure if it was the same Taaffe.

Thanks again for getting in touch.

Regards,

Alex
