Hello
I would really appreciate it if somebody could look up the following address on the 1891 census and tell me who's living there.
8 Ellison Road, Streatham, London
I know in 1901, Charles Lake and a Sarah Marsh are living there, but can't seem to find them anywhere else.
Also, is there a way of looking up addresses on www.ancestry.co.uk? I can't seem to find it.
Many thanks

On the 1891 census there is a Charles Lake, dairyman living at 29 Star Road, Fulham, London. Here's the family:
Charles Lake, head, 33, dairyman, Oxford Street Lucy Lake, wife, 33, Chelsea Percy Lake, son, 12, Vauxhall Francis Lake, son, 11, Fulham, London Edgar Lake, son, 6, Fulham, London
There is a death in the FreeBMD for a Lucy Jane Lake, 43, in Fulham that was registered in the fourth quarter of 1899 (volume 1a, page 214).
I couldn't find Charles' mother, Sarah Marsh in 1891 though.
If that is your Charles Lake, the family is at 16 Star Lane, Fulham in 1881 as follows:
Charles Lake, head, 23, dairyman, Marylebone, Middlesex Lucy Lake, wife, 24, Chelsea, Middlesex Percival A. Lake, son, 12, Vauxhall, Surrey Francis L. Lake, son, 11, Fulham, Middlesex Horace C. Pugh, boarder, 21, fishmonger, Clerkenwell, Middlesex
There is an entry on the 1871 census which may be Charles with his parents although the son's name is listed as Mark. The reason why I'm wondering whether Charles and Mark are the same person is this Mark Lake is listed as being born at Oxford Street, Middlesex which is where Charles is listed as being born on the 1891 census. Also his mother, Sarah Lake is listed as being born about 1832 in Buckinghamshire which matches the information for Sarah Marsh on the 1901 census.
Here is the family at Merton Rd, Kensington, London:
George Lake, head, 38, milk carrier, Buckinghamshire Sarah Lake, wife, 39, Buckinghamshire George Lake, son, 15, milk carrier, Strand, Middlesex Mark Lake, son, 13, Oxford Street, Middlesex Joseph Lake, son, 9, Poplar Eliza Lake, daughter, 6, Chelsea, Middlesex Clara Lake, daughter, 5, Knightsbridge, Middlesex Thomas Stay, lodger, 20, stableman, Wiltshire Charles Leason, lodger, 18, groom, Nottingham
I took a look for a Mark Lake born about 1858 on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census to see if there was a match to rule out the 1871 family but the only Mark Lake born about 1858 was on the 1881 census and he was a police constable.
George, Sarah and family are at 39 Suffolk Road (hard to read but I think that is what it says), Poplar for the 1861 census:
Geo Lake, head, 28, labour milk carrier, Stewkley, Buckinghamshire Sarah Lake, wife, 28, Stewkley, Buckinghamshire Mary Lake, daughter, 7, London, Middlesex George Lake, son, 5, London, Middlesex Eliz Lake, daughter, 4, London, Middlesex Mark Lake, son, 3, London, Middlesex Matilda Lake, daughter 1, London, Middlesex Elizabeth Lake, mother, 68, Stewkley, Buckinghamshire George Ralleyn, nephew, 12, Stewkley, Buckinghamshire Joseph Korte(?), boarder, 21, labourer gas factory, Hampstead, Middlesex George Streward(?), boarder, 26, labourer warehouse, London, Middlesex Note: The writing on the page is really faint the names of the boarders might not be right.

Forgot to include this, in case that George and Sarah are yours:
1881 census - 10 Crown Road, Fulham, London
George Lake, head, 48, dairyman, Stackley,Buckinghamshire Sarah Lake, wife, 49, Drayton, Buckinghamshire George Lake, son, 25, lamp lighter, Covent Garden, Middlesex Joseph Lake, son, 19, milk carrier, Limehouse, Middlesex
They also had a visitor with them and some lodgers named Charles and Annie Marsh and their children.
There is a marriage for a Sarah Lake registered in the third quarter of 1890 in Brentford (Volume 3a, Page 70). On the same page is a Tom Marsh.
I found a Thomas and Sarah Marsh living at 114 Lillie Road, Fulham on the 1891 census as follows:
Thomas Marsh, head, 65, painter, Winchester, Hampshire Sarah Marsh, wife, 59, Drayton, Buckinghamshire (The transcription has Berkshire but the image, which has the county abbreviated, has a heavy line through it and it looks like Bucks, not Berk to me.)
There are also two boarders with them.

Wow Jacquie, thanks so much! That's a lot of information
I will have a look through what you've sent and see if it ties in. I'm thinking it might be worth ordering the Sarah Lake/ Tom Marsh marriage certificate.
Thanks again
