Colonel Michael Flanagan
« on: Saturday 20 December 08 07:56 UTC (UK) »

Hello Listers,

I'm hoping someone is able to give me some advice re the following -

My husband's 3xgreat grandmother Jane Flanagan died in Victoria, Australia in 1865. Her death certificate stated she was born in Limerick and that her parents were Colonel Michael and Alicia Flanagan. I found a baptism for Jane at Limerick Cathedral (Church of Ireland) in 1807. Jane married William Munday Clayton in London in 1828. Jane emigrated to Australia with her 2 daughters in 1853.

I found an entry in the Engand 1841 Census for Michael and Alicia Flanagan living at Chapel Street St George Hanover Square.

My question is where do I find out more about Michael's military service and are the records available for the St Mary's Limerick Cathedral?

Thank you.

Hi Leigh,

An obituary may have been published in the Limerick Leader at the time of Colonel Flanagan''s death.

If there was it should give more details about his military career. The paper was first published in 1889.

Thankyou Christopher for your reply and suggestion.

Since placing my message I've found that Michael Flanagan probably died c1850-1853 in London.

Regards
