Hi
Is there anyone out there that could look for some Porteous's for me?
My family of Porteous came from Newlands and I am looking for JEAN (Grace) PORTEOUS nee Watson who died after 1809 and before 1841 (1809 was the year her last child was born a David Porteous)
JOHN PORTEOUS dob 1735c & MARGARET PORTEOUS nee Biggar who both will have died after 1764
ALEXANDER PORTEOUS dob 1716 & JANET PORTEOUS (nee Hamilton)
ANDREW PORTEOUS & AGNES PORTEOUS (nee Broun) both will have after 1716

I live in the Parish and could have a look in the graveyard for you

My Porteous family going by the IGI lived around Halmyre, Newlands, Drumelzier and West Linton.

had a look around the old Newlands churchyard today . A lot of the inscriptions on headstones have eroded and are illegible but I did find a Porteous although possibly not one of your ones - John Porteous died at Whim on 30/6/1877 aged 41 also his wife Isabella McMinn, died aged 47 and daughter Mary Jane.
There is another graveyard in West Linton and the Drumelzier ones may possibly be in Stobo or Broughton churchyards. Halmyre is definitely in Newlands Parish are there were several graves from that estate.
