Greaves Gossling completed
« on: Thursday 25 December 08 21:40 UTC (UK) »

Looking for any trace on Greaves Gossling born June 1840 Macclesfield Cheshire.

Last found on 1851 for Clinder House, Roseneath aged 10years, with his parents.
Have trace his parents on 1861, 1871 & 1881 he is not found with them. Sometimes in England and
sometimes in Scotland.

I thought he had died,  but have just got his Uncle Will,
who died in December 1880 leaving him money with his brothers and sister.

Would be grateful for any thing on him however small.
Thank you

Thank you Pam, Barker is one of Greaves brothers.

Sorry, I had the information you kindly sent me.
I also have information on his other brother and his sister, but
I can not find him after the census 1851 at Roseneath.

I just need to find out where Greaves was from 1851 to 1880.

Thank you for your help

Hi Pam
I have his sister Clementine Maxwell Gossling who married Thomas M. Whyte
9 Sept 1858. I have her on the census and their son.

It's just Greaves I can't not find, that is why I thought he had died, but the Will was written on August 1880, naming him.

Don't worry about him, but Thank you for trying. I think he's just another one on the back burner.
Cheers and a Happy Christmas to you  Grin

Happy Xmas to you also.

I see that Barker was visiting the Whytes 1861.

I wonder if there was something wrong with Greaves and he was put away somewhere. Or he just left the country.

Regards Pam

I have found an entry for Greaves Gossling death in Queensland indexes for 1902 listed as Greaves Gossling, F. George Johnson Gossling, M. Clementina Maxwell. I have not yet ordered the certificate so have no further information. Can't locate the arrival in Australia.
I have also located a George J Gossling aged 25 leaving Melbourne for Sydney on the Otago in 1864, not sure if he is Greaves brother the age is about right though.

Barker Gossling's wife Nancy is my great grandfather's sister.

Have found a ref to Greave Gossling on Croydon Queeland,  Hospital Amission Registers.

Maybe this could be followed up to see if we could get a copy.

Hi CU,

Apparently I have to make 3 posts before I can PM you.
I was quite surprised when I came across Greaves' death listing as I had been able to find not trace of him either. I was just playing around with the QLD indexes when I came across it.

Yes I did and it would seem that he was admitted between 7 Apr 1896 & 29 Mar 1897 going by the volume number. I think it would be worth getting a copy of this record as well as his death certificate. These would help to inform whether he was married or left any descendants. There is also a George Gossling in that index and it may be the same person spelling may just be wrong so it would be worth getting both.
