Ros Davis' County Down website is great:

Griffith's Valuation would be 1840s/1850s.

Hi Audrey
Am also investigating the McKnights, through a line from Dillon - Robert McKnight;  my line continues through his granddaughter, Jane McKnight (b22 Aug 1830) who married John Parry (m 05 Oct 1858) or Perry.
Happy to share what I have if it is of use.
My line were in Ballee, Co Down. Not sure how close that is to Kilkeel.

Anyway, let me know if there might be something of use to you in that line.

Hi
I am searching for the McKnights from the Kilkeel area - most probably Derryogue area. They left for New Brunswick sometime between 1823 and 1832. William and Isabel McKnight - both born County Down (on their tombstones) about 1780 for both;
Their children;
Andrew born about 1805 County Down(not sure he is their child but William appears as witness on his marriage registration)
John born about 1809
Samuel born about 1810
William born about 1816 possibly earlier
Isabella born 1823
Jane "Jean" born about 1820
William became a school teacher in New Brunswick and more remarkably his mother Isabel also applied for a teacher's license in NB in the 1830s - in fact their handwriting on their applications is wonderfully clear.
They farmed in New Maryland, New Brunswick (which seems to have been peopled by relatives) Other families that they married nto are the Moffatts, Hassons, Fishers, Knox (from Cranfield County Down) MacCavours, Galbraiths (all from Kilkeel area) and Young and Dalzell from County Down (although they spelt it as Dezell on the 1851 census)
Any connections gratefully appreciated.

Hello,
We seem to be related!  I am a McKnight descended from William and Isabel who lived in New Maryland.  William McKnight abt 1840 (son of John abt 1809, grandson of William abt 1780) married Agnes Remina Knox Jan. 9 1878 in Fredericton, NB.  They were my great-great grandparents.  If you'd like to share info, please let me know.
Thanks,
Renaud
