Noble McKenzie McTavish Cumming
« on: Saturday 27 December 08 20:23 UTC (UK) »

Hi -- Looking for any information at all about a Roderick Noble or Margaret Mckenzie.  Married in the Parish of Cawdor, county of Nairn 12 December 1857.  On the marriage record it cites

Roderick as a farm servant. Residence - Little Urchany.  Parents - Donald Noble (Farmer) and Janet Noble maiden name MacTavish

Margaret - Domestic servant - Parents - John McKenzie, agricultural labourer (Deceased) and Isabella McKenzie, nee Cumming,
                Deceased.

This couple had a child - Isabella born October 10 1858.  Little Felfermain (??spelling)  County of Nairn - Roderick's occupation is recorded as 'Ploughman ' on Isabella's birth certificate.

They left Scotland in 1859 on the "Gala" and arrived in Port Chalmers (New Zealand) in 1860.  It is possible that Margaret had a brother called William (Wm) who also went on the same passage to New Zealand as a Wm McKenzie is listed on the passenger list.

Isabella is my Great Grandmother - Any information at all about this family in Scotland would be so much appreciated - Thank You

Thanks heaps for this -- I had found the two census records and wondered of they were related but as Margt was with a MacDonald family I was not sure.  I did not link in to the 1849 marriage - and with this extra piece of informatin it majkes more sense.

On Margaet and Rodericks mARRIAGE certificate her address is recorded as "Blairmore' - this is a a very strong link to the first (1841) CENSUS YOU  have found.

Again - thanks heaps

Now - I wonder where to from ere - Need to folow up on Roderick Noble some more - but also somehow suss out oif the William in this family if the Wm McKensie who was on the same ship as Roderick. Margerat and baby Isabella.

Regards

yes - it isays both are 27 years old in 1857 - this would support the 1829 birth record - ecept for the 'Elisbeth' instead of Isobel - however it is possible that there was a mix up with the mothers name because they are 'close'
Cheers

Hi again - just relooking at all this - Margaret's children in New Zealand were named Margaret (died age 3), John, Mary Fraser, and Alexander.  The names Mary Fraser and Alexander fit with the names you have found back in Scotland.  There is a Wm McKenzie on the ships list (The Gala) that Roderick and Margaret came out on - also of much interest is the birth certificate of her youngest baby Alexander (I think Roderick was gone before the birth of his youngest child)  - the 'informant' of the birth to the register is a "William McKenzie - settler' .
