*COMPLETED* HANDLEY family Brimfield in 1871
« on: Monday 29 December 08 15:33 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I'm looking for 1841-1861 census listings for Joseph and Sarah Handley (who were in Brimfield in 1871 with children Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Thomas and Richard).

Also - Sarah, the mom, was born in Kington (don't know her maiden name), so I wonder if she and Joseph were married there c. 1859.

My father-in-law said that one of the children of this family was quite involved in the Salvation Army, so if there's any info in that regard I'd appreciate it too.  Maybe Sarah's family was the connection?

Thanks,
cassiar

Thank you Spidermonkey - the 1861 info is great!  Would a "farm merchant" have sold implements to farmers or bought and sold farms or....?
The marriage to Sarah Turner could be right.  It's the right time frame and general area.  I'm not sure how this could be confirmed.
Also I found a Joseph Handley born in 1830 in Eardisland whose father was also Joseph Handley (mother Sarah ?) - on the IGI.
Any luck with the 1851/1841 censuses?

Hi Spidermonkey,

Would you please check the 1841 census in or around Kington for a Turner family with a daughter Sarah (who would be 3 or 4), and if you find them, also the 1851 census for that family.

And also, do you have access to the 1891 census, and if so, would you please look up Joseph and Sarah Handley?  They were in Richard's Castle in 1881 and still had young children.

Thanks

Hi Spidermonkey,

Thanks a lot for your help.  My original query has been answered, so I've changed this to "Completed" and will start a new query for anything further.

You've been great!
