Royd, PM me your email address and I will send you all my Cutler info Smiley

JLo, May Ellis was bought up by Caroline Catton, her aunt, because her parents died in 1903 and 1908 respectively. Roger, Mays son, renamed a hous originally called Edrema in Frieth to Cattons House. It all links in. I have a picture but uploader doesn't work so will send it to Royd via email and maybe he can try?

I was in Lane End today, yes it is a Martin's now. Betty Twitchen wasn't in though  Sad

Hi,
I've just started my family tree and we have Druces from Fingest.

My great great grandparents were James (1857) and Emma (1863) Druce who had daughters Gertrude (1880 marrying Charlie Harris) Annie, Raymond 9(1901-1918 memorial plaque in Fingest church) Robert, and Marjorie.

Marjore married Ernest Frederick parker from Cadmore End and we have just got hold of a book about Cadmore End.

I have only just started out and have not put together the trees yet.
we do visit the area a few times a year.  Would be interested on any info from those families or who to talk to (ie about Fingest Cottages.

Welcome to RootsChat

There are alot of Druce's in this area and I have not really been into this. I have a contact (Peter Ellis) who, I think, has Roger Druce's phone number. I will email him to ask about it. He is the great grandson of the Aunt of May Ellis. Here is a segment from my Cutler tree which includes May Ellis and Edwin Charles Druce:

├── Clara Cutler, b. 1858 at BKM: Lane End
│   +Joseph Ellis, b. 1855, m. 25 Sep 1882 at BKM: Lane End
      ├── Millicent Alice Ellis, b. 22 Dec 1883 at BKM: Lane End, d. 1889
      ├── Ralph Rupert Ellis, b. 26 Sep 1885 at BKM: Lane End, d. 1975
├── Daisy Clara Ellis, b. 12 Jan 1888 at BKM: Lane End, d. 13 Jan 1943, Wandsworth dist.
├── Edwin Joseph Ellis, b. 14 Apr 1890 at BKM: Lane End, d. 17 Mar 1965 at BKM: Aylesbury
      │   +Dorothy May Beason, b. circa 1897, m. 1918
      ├── Winifred Cutler Ellis, b. 30 Jul 1892 at BKM: Lane End, d. 1969

      ├── Ethel Ella Ellis, b. 24 Feb 1900 at BKM: Lane End, d. 1984
└── May Ellis, b. 29 Jun 1902 at BKM: Lane End, d. 29 Oct 1961 at BKM: Lane End
+Edwin Charles Druce, b. 1 Oct 1903 at BKM: Wheeler End, m. 4 Aug 1928 at BKM: Lane End, d. 1 Dec 1993 at BKM: Lane End
├── Roger Ellis Druce, b. 18 Apr 1929 at BKM: Lane End

Hi Selena, I have looked at my tree but I do not have a James 1857. if you are a member of Genes Reunited let me know and I will share my Druce tree with you so that you can see for yourself.

When I first started out on this branch I had contact from an Alan Druce who has researched the family and he told me I was following the wrong branch and he put me right.  I would think you are probably connected to the other family he was on about.

I was quite disappointed becase the other Druce's had wonderful names like Keziah and Shadrach and I was quite sorry to lose them.   I would advise that you work backwards very carefully from what you already know and, if in doubt, always buy the certificate to verify things.

Happy hunting. R.   Wink

HI,

thanks for any contact.  I'm not sure if I have a contact from Royd of GR though.  Will double check (internet keeps crashing so getting frustrated!!).

JLo - I have a huge print out that mentions Daisy Druce who is linked to my Druces (somehow - very complicated).  is this the Daisy - dughter of George Druce and Anne Britnell.  george Druce was the brother of the James Druce being my gr/gr/gr grandfather.  James married Emma Hussey.

The names in this tree are amazing!!  i wish I had more time to dedicate to this.

Thanks you for any info - so helpful to me the newcomer to this.

Selena,

Here is a marriage I have found in my own records for a George Druce s/o Josiah:

20 Feb 1858
George X DRUCE, aged 23, Bachelor of West Wycombe, Labourer son of Josiah Druce, Labourer
Eliza X KEEN, aged 22, Spinster of West Wycombe daughter of James Keen, Labourer
Witnesses Joseph X Cutler Ann X Cutler Isaac Fryer

I have offered Royd a lookup for a couple of Wests in West Wycombe so if there is any Druce baptisms/marrs/burials I will look them up for you and if it is a marriage get a copy and send it on to you. I should be going to the Bucks RO at end of May.

You seem to be bitten by the bug already  Wink

Hi Selena, I contacted you via GR last week and you have opened it.  Have just sent another one via that site to help.

The Daisy Druce daughter of George Druce and Annie Britnell you mention was my grandmother.  However, I have no record of George Druce having a brother called James.

It may be helpful if I email you a copy of my Druce family history which was sent to me a member of GR who has done the research.  I had been following the wrong family which is easy to do as there is more than one family with that name in that area.

Have a look at my tree on GR and let me know what you think.

If I can help with anything else just let me know.  Regards. R.

Hello Selena and Royd

Some while ago I collected quite a lot of information about the DRUCE family of Lane End and surrounding area, tracing the family back to 1714.  If you can let me have details of your particular lines, including dates and places, I will see if I can link them in.

Hi Orpheus, what an incredibly kind offer.  I am supposed to be doing something else right now but this is far more interesting!!

Ok, here goes. I will just give you my direct line without all the siblings or it could go on forever.

This information was given to me by someone who had got this particular line back to:

Samuel Druce c1779 born in Marlow.  He married Hannah Leech born in Berkshire and I have her father as Charles Leech.

Samuel and Hannah had a daughter Elizabeth Ann born 1814 and was probably born in Fingest.

Elizabeth had 2 illegitimate children:
Charles 1836 born Lewkner Uphill and James 1840.  Both kept the Druce name.  Elizabeth then married a Richard Butler and produced other children.

Charles married Sophia Plumridge and they had George 1863 Cadmore End.

George married Annie Britnell and one of their children Daisy 1894 High Wycombe was my grandmother.  She married William Ewart West.

I can give you quite a lot more info as my informant has passed on census, baptism, wedding references etc.  but I am stuck at Samuel.

Please don't hesitate to get back to me if this isn't enough to go on.  Kind regards. R.

Hi Orpheus,

Just to let you know I have not done any marking for days now!!  This family tree business has got me hooked - in fact I think I'm getting obsessed.  And now more information...!!!

Thank you so much for this offer.  I have only just started out and seem to be devotong a lot of time to the DRuce's - not sure why.

My greatgrandmother was Marjorie Druce of Cadmore End born 1901 daughter of James Druce (1859) and Emma Hussey(1863) of Lane End.

James is the son of George Druce and Eliza.  James had siblings Clara and Shadrach

I think I have got as far back as a Jonah Druce married to sarah on the 1851 census.

They seemed to move around Fingest, Lane End and Cadmore End.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Selena
