Hi

Does anyone know of any (quite detailed) OS Maps that include Lane End? My family ran business' there and I can't find any map detailed enough to include individual structures in Lane End.

Anyone know of any?

Well I have been trying to find out where my grandfather lived on the 1901 census... I think it was church Path.

The Schedule came in this order:
Start : RG13/1351/19/8, End : RG13/1351/19/12

54 Essex House

58 Aldersey Cottage
59 Daisy Cottages
60 - 66, Daisy Cottages
67 Pit Cottage
68 Pit cottage
69              <<< This is my great-great-great Grandfather's house.

I have been trying for months to place his house but I have no idea! I know Lane End quite well (even though I have only visited once) and know my way around enough, but I just wondered if anyone can shed any light?

Hi,

Don't mean to pry JLo but did you get anywhere with my predicament?
All the certs i have that are issued at the Wycombe Registrars just says "Lane End Gt Marlow"

I have sent my Mum an email today with the cottages to see if she can find out.  She has a lot of dealings with the 'old folk' of the village so may be able to find out from them if she doesn't know herself  Smiley

Hi Matt

My Mum has been chatting to the 'fountain of all knowledge' in Lane End!  She herself used to live in Fern Cottage and her mother lived there before her.  She was very interested in helping you and asked me to pass on her name and number to you which I will do in a PM

She believes that Pit Cottages used to be behind Daisy Cottages.  There were cottages there but they got flooded in 1935 and fell into disrepair.  The area is still known as 'The Pit' by the old locals in the village

Essex House (L shaped brown roof), Fern Cottage and Aldershyde are all on Finings Road just near to where it says Finings Road on the satellite picture.  Then if you turn right on the track just before it says High Street (opposite the Village Green) and go down that track, Daisy Cottages are on the right.

Hi, I don't usually look at the Bucks board but was caught by the words Lane End.  My father's family  the West's and the Druce's came from there so I had a look at the map.

It didn't mean much to me to be honest - I live in the north of England, but it was interesting to see names that crop up so often in my family history such as Cadmore End, Lane End etc.  Thank you for that link.  Regards. R.

Are your Druce's related to the Druce's who had the village shop (newsagent/sweet shop) in the 1970's and 80's?  I remember it very well!

Hi JLO, I honestly haven't a clue!  I live in the north of England and always have.  I used to go to High Wycombe for one week of my holidays each year and would meet up with various relatives but I can't say I know who they all were!!

I have a very large Druce tree on GR but I honestly don't know that much about them.  I remember going on a car ride one day with my dad when he showed me the house where he was born in Lane End, in fact, I think I have a photo of him outside patting a very large dog.  Of course, I wasn't that interested in those days!!!!!

If, however, you have any knowledge of or info about the Druces and the Wests, I would be delighted to learn about it.  Kind regards. R.

My distant ancestor May (or Winifred Ellis - Shall have to check my files) Ellis married an Edward Druce - any of your family? They had a son, Roger - and May/Winifred and Edward built a house in Frieth called 'Cattons' in memory of Caroline Catton - the nice lady who looked after May and Win and their bros and sisters when their parents died.

Hi Matt.  Yes, I have not an Edward but an Edwin Druce born 1903 who married a May Ellis born 1902.
They had a son Roger and a daughter June.  Is that right?

Edwin was the son of William Druce and William's brother George was my great grandfather.  Hope that makes sense.

Funnily enough, I also have a family of Cutlers.  I have a Joseph Cutler born 1839 who married a relative of mine, Frances West.  They had Bessie, Frederick, George, Frances, Edwin and Lilian.

Do we have a connection there as well   Grin
