I found this entry by chance in my 1851 census transcript for Millom, CUL.  Not sure if it's the William Denny you're looking for but thought I'd pass it on anyway.

Roan Lands, Millom Upper
Folio 188, page 3

William Denny, Vis, W, 50, painter, LAN Broughton.

Visiting James Towers & family, farmers.

Hi Juliette  Thank you for that but afraid not my William, but will keep trying.They are being diffcult at the moment to find as I live in Nottinghamshire so cannot get up ther to look very eaisly.Iwould be grateful if you keep looking for me .
