Griffith Valuation online query- COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 30 December 08 12:32 UTC (UK) »

I have a query about two different online sources for the Griffith valuation.  I appear to get two different answers.

I went to this website
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php
and entered "Rickard" as the surname, and selected county Meath.  All other fields are left blank.  There are 16 entries returned, 5 of them are for a Luke Rickard.

I tried the same thing on this site
http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php
entering Rickard as family name, and Meath as county, and leaving all other entries blank.  The results were different.  There are 2 returns for Luke Rickard.

Can anyone explain why these results are different?

Not sure how you got those results. On the 2nd site  I searched for 'Rickard' in Co. Meath I got 20 results (14 with surname of Rickard + 6 others). Is it possible that you also had the Christian name Luke in the search box?

Yes, I got the same.  Sorry I didn't explain it well, I got 20 results in total, the same as you (14 Rickards), 2 of those were for Luke Rickard.   The other search gave 5 (of the 16 total) with the name Luke Rickard.

Understand now what you mean and think I figured the difference out but hope I can explain it clearly.

First site (www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php)- searching for Rickard in Meath gives 6 results for Luke Rikard.

Second site (http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php)- searching for Luke Rickard gives 6 results- 2 for Luke Rikard and 4 others (Thomas Darby, Robert Bunton, John Ball, Patrick Andrews). If you click on any of those other names in the results (details column) it shows that the immediate lessor of the property is Luke Rickard (basically their landlord). If you look at the original printed page it might be easier to get an idea of what was going on in the townland.

Thanks very much.  I just tried the askaboutireland site again to check what you said, but it appears to be down at the moment.  I am sure you are right, thanks.
