thanks barbara and meliora for this information, the only information i have is a marriage between Joseph Schofield and Sarah Jane Fryer at St Olave, Southark London in 1897, in the 1901 census the pair were then living in manchester, i have sent away for the marriage licence but am still waiting as i only ordered it yesterday, i am hoping it will give me some confirmation of the parents.  glen

Yes, I think you need that as there are a few possibilities, and with father's name and occupation we can hopefully help further.  Please come back and post the details when you get them

Kind regards,
Barbara

I have received the marriage certificate for Joseph Schofield, and Sarah Jane fryer, they were married on the 27th march 1897, Joseph was a lot older than i expected, he was 50 yrs old and a widower, his  proffession was a plasterer journeyman, and his father was also named joseph (deceased) and he was a licensed victualler. i know that sarah jane was either 25 or 35( it is not clear on the certificate) a spinster, they were both living at number 3 star  place, star corner in bermondsey, and i believe that they later moved to manchester, could anyone help me find where joseph was prior to his marriage and any posssibilities to his first marriage. any help appreciated   Glen

Hi Glen

in the 1901 census the pair were then living in manchester

Can't seem to find them in 1901 census, can you give the ref no please?  Also Sarah's father's name and occupation to find her in 1891?

You said you were surprised to see that Joseph was 50 on marriage cert, how old was he in the 1901 census and what was his birthplace?

Obviously the 1871 census I gave you for William T was the wrong one, as the mother would be too young to have a son b.1847

hi Barbara i have no idea where joseph and sarah jane are in 1901, they were living in bermondsey, as of sarah janes father, he was lawson scarlet fryer born about 1821 in hempnel norfolk, he was listed in various censuses as a horseman, and a general labourer, i have found him on the 1861 and 1881 census   glen

Your original question was about a William T Schofield aged 7 in Salford, brother Joseph.  Where did you get brother William T's name from, if you haven't found Joseph in any census?

I think it may help to link this to your other thread on Sarah Fryer, which I have just realised contains quite a bit of information on this family, as otherwise information and searching will be duplicated
