It seems that the database is still in preparation and it will be another 12-18 months before it is complete. There will be no CDROM produced but searches will be made  via the website.

Hi Benn

Went to St Josephs yesterday, looked at every headstone in the St Peters section "nothing"

Spoke to one of the grave diggers, and explained the problem to him, he rang the office who rechecked the database.

They only have one Isabella Johnson buried there and she is in that Cowley grave  Huh

Benn I have no idea on what direction for you to take now to resolve the mystery Huh

Hi Ken, Thankyou very much for all your help, It does seem strange that she is in a grave with another family, perhaps there is a connection - but I can't find one yet!
I think probably the best thing to do is next time I get to Manchester, is to pop in again and get the grave report, and I'll just have to make do I suppose. I've got to come over soon anyway to search Manchester General Cemetery, so I can now make a day of it.
Thanks again for all you've done.
Best regards,
Benn.

Hi All

I am researching my family history and i have a listing for a grave in Moston Cemetary. I have found the grave but it dosen't list my great grandmothers name, but her parents are listed on the grave. I was wondering if any one has been able to look at the archive records before for Moston Cemetary and if they have been charged for the search? My dad thinks it is possible that ther may be other family members buired in the plot, may be the records would show this.

Kind regards

Hello Ali
11 years ago when I contacted St Joseph's re a family burial I sent a written request giving the date of death. I received a reply in the post and was not charged for the service. However they did say they were a registered charity so would appreciate a donation. I am sure you could obtain an email address and contact them to find out if this is still the situation.

Hi all.

I have also been trying to locate a grave at Moston Cemetery with the very kind help of MancsMan.  When I emailed them, if you give them an exact date of death they will provide the grave number free-of-charge but if you only have the year they charge £30.00 for a search.  The email address is cemeteries@salforddiocese.org

It's a shame all the cemeteries have now jumped onto the "lets scr*w the family researchers" band wagon.

Well saying that there are a few that are free  Grin

Luzzu like I said in my email I will find your Michael

Hello Benny,
All my family are buried in St Joseph's. My cousin bought a grave from a lady so she is buried in the grave along with my Aunt Uncle and two cousins. Her name is on the headstone so it is confusing if you dont know the story. Maybe something like this happened with the person you are looking for.
When I have visited the cemetery the office gets out their book of records and most times has the information if you have the persons name.

Further back on this thread Luzzu gave the contact email address you should write to - if you state the cemetary you are interested in, give the deceased persons name and date of death they should be able to advise you.  There is a database in preparation for Moston but it will be some time before it is complete.
Good luck

Hi Etch

You will find layout plans at both the main and the back entrance, so if you live local you should have no problem finding it.

I would have a look myself, but I have very little time for rootschat at present.

If you ask them for a list of who is buried in that grave they will charge you for it.
