the main place that I am stuck is Ashton with John Thomas McWhire who married Susannah Revell. I have no record of birth marriage or death for him but know he is related to me through my family bible.

Any help you can give on this would be greatly appreciated, at least then I may be able to track a connection to Kirkgunzeon.

Thank you

Hi Reiver

Thanks for your reply. All I have on John Thomas McWhire is the following date of burial 11/11/1914 aged 67 years last living at 5 Oldham Road, Royton. I know that he married Susannah Celia Revell dec qtr 1874 in Ashton Under Lyne but have no further details. Hope this is enough info.

Thanks again

Hi AKC

Looks like you have found him in the only place that I can find him. It seems that after 1881 he vanishes and before 1881 he doesn't exist this is where I'm stuck.

Let me know if you have any more luck.

Hi

I think this is him in 1851 but who his parents were is unclear:

1851
Peel Street, Ashton Under Lyne
HO107/2233 F 141 P 44

Joseph Herrad, widr, ?80 or 60, Hand Loom Weaver
James, son, 38, Cotton Spiner
Emma, diL, 46, b. Yorks, NK
Sarah Ann, dau, 16 Drawer cotton
John, grdson, 13, Cotton piecer, b. Cheshire
Joseph, grdson, 8, scholar
Emma, grddau, 5, scholar
Nathaniel, grdson, 4 months
John Thos McQuire, grdson, 3, scholar

all others b. Ashton Under Lyne

Note - McWhire and McQuire would sound very similar.

Hi Gadget

Thanks for the info, looking at the list it looks like James and Emma could be his parents, although that would make Emma an old mother.

I wil try this info on familysearch.

Thanks

Hi

He has a different surname to James and Emma!  I'd say his mother was one of James's sisters.

In 1841, this is the Herrod family:

Horley hill Guidelane, Audenshaw, Ashton under Lyne
HO107/533 Bk 1 F 37 P 21

Herrod
Joseph, 50, ?occ- Lh or Sh
Ann, 50
Hannah, 25, Power L Weaver
Ann, 22, Power L Weaver
Alice, 20, Power L Weaver
Thomas, 17, Porter
Nancy, 15

All b. Lancashire

John Thomas McQuire, Dec q, 1847, Ashton under Lyne, vol 20 Page 5? *

I'll go check the main index to see if I can work out the page number.

It could have been a late registration  - Dec Quarter runs from October 1st to Dec 31st - so a 22 Sept birth would fit.

What names does it give for his parents? To save me looking  Grin
