Chapmans of Leeds
« on: Monday 05 January 09 17:17 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I'm trying to find out more about my father  born Ronald George Chapman 1949 in Leeds. His mothers surname is Atkins, but as I don't have any contact with him or his family I'm finding it hard to find more records. Any help would be great. If I could find out the names of his parents then that would be a good start.

Thanks Sara

Hi Sara:  Ronald G Chapman registered in Leeds district June quarter 1949.  Mother's surname Atkins.  Volume 2c, page 266.

If you send for his birth certificate, it will give you the fuller details of his parents.  Either go to Leeds Register Office, or via GRO.  If you need further information on how to do this, get back to me - I don't want to "teach my grandmother to suck eggs".

Are you able to order a birth certificate if that person is still alive? I thought there might be problems getting it if I have no proof he is my father. His name isn't on my birth certificate.

Thanks Sara

As far as I'm aware, that's not a problem, but if you don't ask the question (or order the certificate) you won't get an answer!  They can only say no.  If you do it online via GRO then you only need to give the information you have from the index, and that is what you have.  Go for it!
