On 15/5/1880 in St Peter's Catholic Church, Belfast:
Patrick McMahon [of North Queen Street Barracks; 86 Foot regt] aged
39, son of Patrick McMahon [dead], labourer married
Barbara McNally [residing in Grovesnor Place, Belfast], aged
25, a Machine Stitcher, daughter of James McNally [alive], Car Owner
[from Holywood, County Down]:

Patrick McMahon above appears to have sent for his birth details for
a pension claim as among the family records was discovered the following:

St Johns Roman Catholic Church, Kilkenny
Patrick McMahon of Maudlin? Street Kilkenny, son of Patrick McMahon
and Mary McMahon was baptized the 9 day of August 1835
[signed Patrick Treacy Oct 17 1908]

Is there anyone familiar with St John's records or this McMahon family?

It does state on Patrick's [jun] marriage cert that his father was from
Limerick City.

Any help would be gratefully received.

The IFHF website (pay-site at www.irish-roots.ie) has parish transcripts from Co. Kilkenny - including some McMahon Baptisms in St. John's RC

Patrick MacMahon    1829    
Patrick MacMahon    1835    
Patrick Mahon    1847    

and a Church Marriage of a Patrick Mahon    in 1832    

there is a Maudlin street, in Kilkenny City, it's off John Street and St John's records seem to go back to about 1790

Limerick is also covered and a quick search shows a Patrick McMahon birth as far back as 1739..
