Here is the basic information about the first of my HAGANs that came to Canada.

I believe the "first" of my HAGANs, came from County Monaghan,  to Prince Edward Island (PEI) Canada about 1840.
I say County Monaghan because of similar place names there and in PEI (e.g. Emyvale, Trough, Kelly's Cross).
But they may also have come from County Tyrone.  I have not been able to find any documentation in Ireland
on my GG Grandfather listed below.  As they were Roman Catholic, I am told it is very difficult if not impossible
to find any RC church records prior to about 1845.

***************************************************************************
Descendants of Thomas HAGAN (my GGGrandfather)    *
***************************************************************************

      Thomas Hagan b. __-___-1786, Ireland, m. Bridget Brennan , b. __-___-____, d. __-___-____.
Thomas died __-___-____.   Bridget is believed to have died in Ireland.
            Children:
                   i       Andrew (Andy) Hagan #185 b. __-Feb-1814.
                   ii      Francis Hagan #180 b. __-___-1819.
                   iii     Thomas James Hagan #114 b. 31-Dec-1826.
                   iv      Patrick Hagan #19 b. 9-Jan-1831.

Welcome,

I really hope someone can helpyou  as I am also back to the same time period in Tyrone for my Arnold family ie pre 1800. They were Church of Ireland or Presbyterian, depending on which minister baptised them!!

To date I have absolutely no more inforamtion that that which is on their marriages, deaths or childrens birth certificates in Australia after 1850.

I have places and approximate dates but can get no further.

I am sure that very many of us with Irish Ancestors would welcome any hints that we can use from afar. Not all of us live in the UK.

regards

Unfortunately researching Irish roots is not just a matter of living in Ireland but of what records are and aren't still available. Once you get back pre-civil registration you have to search for church records for baptisms and marriages (many churches like Presbyterian rarely kept, or even yet keep, burial records) and few church records from early 1800s survive.
Having the name of a place (parish or even better the townland) means that you can at least search for whatever early records do survive but without that information it is almost impossible to search.

Thankyou,

I had already learned most of this over the years and have accepted that I may find no more information that that which I have now.

I even had an expert on Irish research try and decipher the name of one place of birth without success but it was in Tyrone!!!!

I learned their religions from their immigration records & marriages, approximate birthdates from the re same records plus co-relating ages at children's births and ages at death.

I know they came from Ardshaw/Cappegh plus the one undeciperable town or simply Tyrone on other certificates.

Willam Arnold and Mary Adams had two sons who went to Australia
Robert b c1796 and William b c1800.

One of Robert's sons went to Canada to Montreal (source a letter to the Victorian Police naming all his family in Australia looking for inforamtion on them) All the immigration occurred in the 1850's.

I value what I have discovered and know how lucky I am to have this but frustrated that I cannot get "proof" documentation from Irish sources.

regards and good luck
