Richard Vernon-Marriage sept 1852-Great Broughton
« on: Sunday 04 January 09 13:06 UTC (UK) »

Could some kind soul advise me of how,I can determine the spouse of Richard Vernon.
Free bmd and ancestry list Amy Dean (only one female) and two men -Richard Vernon and William Newton.
I have a name in mind,if it isn't the one I suspect,it will at least eliminate this line of inquiry.
Kindest regards Brian.

I take it you have found him in FreeBMD (or some such database) and wish to determine which of the women he married?

A check of the 1861 census might help (depending on first names of the women).

Alternatively, if you do have the marriage reference details, you could simply order the certificate.  Wink

Hi Brian, I see you have added a bit more information to your question. Do you have Richard in any census? Do you know his occupation, date of birth and place of birth?

have you checked Cheshire BMD? The other place to check is the full marriage index on Ancestry.

Hi Brian,

The marriage took place at Chester St John 27 Sep 1852 - Richard Vernon and Amy Dean.

A full transcription of the marriage is available here showing fathers names, witnesses etc:

Richard Vernon
Did marry an Eliza Oldridge and is listed on the 1861 Census as living in Liverpool,
Occupation Tailor-b 1831-Camebridge
Children Agnes 4
Eliza 3
Richard 9 months.
Richard then vanishes,he is not on the 1871 census and his wife Eliza is using the name Ellinor(dress maker)
and Agnes is 13
Richard 10 and a Thomas 9.
The spelling on the 1861 Census for Richard Vernon b 1831 place of birth is Camebridge.
The thing that has drawn me to Great Broughton more is that there is a Richard Vernon on the 1841/1851 census born there that could be of interest.
Kind regards Brian.

Thanks , so much for the swift response.
We know Richard Married Eliza Oldridge ,but have drawn a complee blank on the marriage location and detail.
There is also the fact that I am unable to determine the date of his death, also I thought that his widow Eliza would have used the name Ellinor as it would probably sound better for a dress maker,or could there be another reason.
Kindest regards Brian.
