John's 80th birthday

Evans in Kidderminster 1830-1855
« on: Sunday 04 January 09 14:17 UTC (UK) »

Looking for as much info as possible re: 2xGt Grandparents Calvin(Claudius) Evans & Jane Turbefield

What I do know is they married 9th Aug 1840 Kidderminster (Church NK)

They lived @No.5 St John's Row Kidderminster early in their marriage.

By 1861 They had moved to Edinburgh.

I am aware that they had a large family, with many of the children not surviving.

I am also looking for the parents of both Calvin & Jane.Calvins father was Henry Evans & mother Mary Ann Atkins but I cannot find a marriage in the area for them.however I think Henry came from Manchester.

Any info other than stated will be of immense help as I cannot get any further back with them at the moment.

Regards

Betty

Hi Betty,
The church for this marriage would be St Mary's, Kidderminster.

St George's and St John's did not do marriage's till 1867.

JANE TURBEFIELD.
CALVIN CLAUDIUS EVANS.
Marriage, 09 AUG 1840. Kidderminster, Worcester,

Hello Jim,

Henry's Occupation - Mason,I have know knowledge of Mary Ann Atkins occupation.

What I do have now from another rooty is a baptism record for Henry/Mary Ann's son Calvin Columbus Evans
@ St John the Baptist Cirencester 6th Aug 1820.So I wonder if they married at the same church.

I also need to tell you that 9th Aug 1840 Calvin Evans married Jane Turbefield @ Kidderminster.
However, this time his name is  Calvin Claudius Evans not Columbus,& yes he is the same one.

Kind Regards

Betty

Hi Betty,
If Henry was in Kidderminster, its possible that he may have helped to build ST JOHNS CHURCH, It opened about 1843, what was the occupation of Calvin.

Hi Jim,

I also pictured that Henry being a Mason,he was possibly working on a church or something.I think he was born in Manchester.

All that I have got on Calvin is that he worked first of all in the carpet trade, then when they moved to Scotland
he was described as working in a warehouse. On his death certificate 1885 he is described as a shop porter aged 64yrs.

That is where I got the names of his parents from & they were both described as deceased. As you will be aware
there is a lot more info on the Scottish certs.

Regards

Hello Jim

I have this, and Iwonder if he was born whilst visiting Henry's family in Manchester, although he was baptised @ St John the Baptist in Cirencester.
