left Ireland with Catherine 6 Alexander 4 and James 9m
for Saint John NB Canada in 1853

Williams brother John Maxwell also went to Saint John.

Welcome to Rootschat.

The "Mary Ann" went to St. John from Londonderry, Ireland in 1853 and William Maxwell and family listed their residence as Carigans.

Carrigans (town), Killea Parish, Barony of Raphoe, Londonderry Poor Law Union, Co. Donegal
The townland of Carriagns is 129 acres.

It may be that the Maxwells lived in the town of Carrigans, in that townland, or just outside the area and gave 'Carigans' as it was their postal address.
