Can anybody please help me,I am  wondering if he could have emigrated for a few years between 1857 and 1870 ,I have been looking for 2 years now for my ggggrandad anthony curry born abt 1795 durham
I have found him in 1841 living in brandon durham
1851 living in moorsley durham
1861 nowhere to be found could he have moved abroad somewhere
1871 he is a pauper  living in pittington durham with his 3rd wife hannah curry nee spalding who he married in 1857 durham
I just cannot seem to find him between 1857 and 1871 all of his children are still living in durham

It's certianly not unusual to have been missed from a census;
it's far more plausible than wandering the globe.

Put down WHERE in durham the 1857 marriage took place.
HER birth year and place and we can help looking with some useful info on which to base a search.

Hi

I am not sure if some areas apply to Durham but I did hear that around 5% to 10% of the 1861 census is missing.

It is more likely they were either missed off the census or the street they lived at may not have had its census returns survive.

Hi Pauline,I did put a look up request for 1861 census in durham but nothing they could not be found
on the marriage certificate It has nov 23rd saint giles durham
anthony curry full age widower, labourer father thomas curry labourer
hannah spalding full age widow father william rutter a gardener both were living in broomside durham at time of marriage
in the 1871 census pittington there surname is spelt carry not curry hannah is down as being born about 1809 rainton durham

I've cross checked the missing pieces and Durham is all there.

It's a long shot but...!?

21. A.C. Inmate, married, 68, born Sunderland, Durham
(RG/3770, folio 104)

There are also 2 x A.C. in the county asylum but their ages are a bit further out, 1791 & 1798.

I suspect this is wrong but there is a Hannah age 51 born Pilton Chester le st
in Front Row Pittington in 1861 unfortunately her husband is John (I checked the
image and it says John) he is age 53 and is a master sinker (?).
There is a grandson there too aged 5, name of Joseph born Littletown.

Hi ,I have just checked this one in pittington ,but when I followed down the census john and hannah were both in pittington 1841 1851 1861 ,I do think this john curry  is related to my anthony curry ,but I have never found a baptism for anthony as yet

I have looked at this one in sunderland union looks promising ,as in 1871 anthony and hannah are both down as paupers

maybe they did not emigrate after all
