pool in cheshire
« on: Thursday 08 January 09 13:53 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone confirm the location of a hamlet or village called Pool in Cheshire? It doesn't appear on modern maps and I would like to know where it was. My ancestor Jane Percival was born there in 1796 and married there in 1832.

Kind regards,

Molly

Hi Molly - GENUKI pages for parishes in Cheshire includes Poole, but the parish church is listed as St Mary at Acton
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/poole.html

Looking at Streetmap there are several Pool Banks in Cheshire

I looked at the IGI & see that there's a member's submitted entry for the baptism that ties to the information you've given, but didn't find the marriage though there is one in 1831 at Ince, also Cheshire. Nothing came of either searching on the familysearchlabs site.

As it is a LDS member submission I would treat it with a great deal of caution  Grin
Where did the information for the marriage come from ?

It's not Poulton Wallasey is it?  Has been known as Poolton (Pool town?) in the past simply because it was adjacent to the Wallasey Pool which in turn became the Wallasey docks.

Hi, Mollie, there is a Poole just outside of Nantwich and as the crow flies it is a shorter distance to Acton Church than St.Marys in Nantwich.
If you enter Poole, Cheshire on Yahoo Maps you will find Poole.  To the west and slightly north is Acton Church.  The road to Poole village is opposite Welshmans Lane which would have been a short cut to the Acton Church
