Hi i am looking for information on Samuel Dickerson b 1803  Wimblington Cambridgeshire he was married to Rebecca Grimwood b 1797? . I am trying to trace the parents of Samuel.

Sorry can't help with the parents, you need someone with access to Wimblington parish records.

Their marriage is on Boyds marriage index.

1821 / DICKERSON  SAM  /GRIMWOOD  REB / DODDINGTON / CAMBRIDGESHIRE   
 

Samuel doesn't seem to appear on Camdex, so maybe he was born before the baptism index starts which is 1801.

I have tried lancashire bmd but no luck with that i have no chance of visiting oldham so i will ask if anyone has wimblington parish records thanks for all your help.

In 1851 Samuel gave his age as 50, birthplace Wimblington, so appears to have been born 1800/01, in which case he may not have been included in the Baptism Index on the Cambs FHS site. But in all subsequent censuses his birthplace is shown as March with an implied birth year of 1801/2, and there were a number of Dic* baptised in March, but not a Samuel at the right time.

Another possibility is that he wasn't baptised at all, as the family may have been non-conformist -  the Index has the 1824 baptism of William DICKINGSON age 1, son of Samuel and Rebekah of Wimblington, at Ely Wesleyan. Might Samuel's parents also have been Wesleyan? Samuel & Rebecca seem to have reverted to the established church as they baptised two further children at Doddington. The earliest Dic* baptism in Doddington 1801-37 was in 1819 so it's possible that Samuel's parents didn't baptise their children, or were from March (or both). There are no burials 1801-37 in Doddington that could be his parents. Were they still alive in 1841? Hang about! Nope, nothing obvious. But were they from March? I think they may have been.

Wimblington only became a parish in its own right in 1874; prior to that it was a hamlet of Doddington, so it's Doddington parish register that you need to be checking. But I think that you should also be looking in March. I've got the CDrom produced by Cambs FHS of March parish register, but unfortunately it's damaged so unusable!
