Where did the year and county of birth come from? He would be retiring in the 1940's I would have thought ...!
Do you know anything else about him? Did he marry? have children? Parents? etc etc Did he hjave middle name? (a few Ernest births around that time...)

Forgive me for being a bit persitant ...
but I am sure you must know more, becuase otherwise how do you know that this 13 yearold in Lea Hill Buckinghamshire in 1901, is the same chap as a man that your mum met in Witney Oxfordshire in the War (1939-45?) who worked with blankets.

How do you know this is him?

Hi sorry
i forgot to say

maria taylor ( nee freeman) was my gt gt  grandmorther
and sarah jane and ernest and arthur were her children
( i cant seem to find births for any of the children .
Maria parents had 2 brother sent to australia
so were prehaps frightened of officals ( just a Guess)
or they had other names but these seemed to be the ones used on the census .

i forgot to say the reson i want to find him is my mum remembers him
(when her mum took her to see her cousin )

and wonders is any of his children are still alive
There as you say are a lot of Taylors i thought ernest was an un common name so told my mum i would look for the family
but at this time late 1890, 1900  it seems to be a popular name .
