Death of My Great grandfather Bernard Mulloy
« on: Sunday 23 November 08 18:17 UTC (UK) »

MODERATORS NOTE...I've tried to merge all these requests in one place to avoid confusion and duplicate research.

I am trying to trace where my great grandfather Bernard Mulloy is buried,
the last piece of imformation I have on him is when he applied for his passport to come to Scotland to visit his family. Bernard emigrated to 2020 N Reese St Philadelphia pa in 1912 to stay with his brother Michael Patrick Malloy and the last address I have for him is Simpson Pa, they say Bernard is buried in New York in the early 1930s but I think that this is wrong as there is no death record for him in New York, I think it has to be Simpson PA

Here is a copy of his passport application

Kind regards Jane if anybody can help me in anyway I would be delighted as I've been searching for years

I found a likely match on a passenger list from Glasgow to New York, arriving 12 Jul. 1925.

Mulloy, Bernard, age 52, male, married, naturalized District Court Middle District of Pa., Scranton, 30 September 1919, adress in US:  650 North 38th St., Philadelphia, Pa.

He's also on an incoming passenger list to Glasgow from New York, arriving 27 Apr. 1925.  It says he was a US citizen and address given was 176, Craignuik Street, Craignuik.

I think it's best to keep trying to narrow down where he was living and when was the latest he was alive.  I tried looking for Bernard or his wife on the 1930 Census, and didn't have any luck.  Maybe another set of eyes will do the trick.

Sometimes, city directories will give a date of death or tell where people moved to, so you might want to see if you can get a look-up for the Philadelphia city directories for that time frame.  If you check www.raogk.org, there seem to be 2 people in the Philadelphia area doing look-ups in libraries.

1920 Fell, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania

Bernard Malloy, age 41,(b) abt 1879 Ireland Pump runner, miner
Michael Malloy, age 43,(b) abt 1877 Ireland Door man, miner

Are these your Mulloy's? because if they are it says Bernard came over in 1908 the first time and was naturalized in 1919.

I think they are my Malloys they lied about their age and 1909 is the year his wife Bridget came to Scotland and gave birth to son James we don't know the real story but I think there was a family fall out and Bridget came to Scotland and lived with her parents, Michael was Bernards younger brother he must have came back again in 1911 and again in 1912 as I have ships records for those years but not 1909, if I could find out what year he sold his farm in Ireland that would help

Thanks Jane

Do you know when I think of it she must have came to Scotland in 1908 and gave birth in the early spring of 1909

Jacquie - I think that's the some trip that I posted about above.  The West Brighton address looks to me like it's for the person below him.  The naturalization information for Pennsylvania on the same line as the Philadelphia address seems to match what mcghee posted.

The 1930 Census on Ancestry doesn't show any entries for Simpson, Pennsylvania, so maybe it went under the name of a larger town?  I'm not coming up with any Mulloys or Malloys in Lackawanna County that seem to match Bernard.
