Are there any old maps showing Freckleton pre bae systems, especially the bae site, when farms and cottages were there.carlingford.

Hi

Did you ever find any maps of Freckelton before 1930. If not, I have a map dated around 1851, is there a special place that you are looking for. ?

Hi Genechaser, I did find a map dated 1894 which was pretty good but 1851 would be even better. I have retired now but did work at Bae, right next to the river ribble, where the old cottages and various buildings stood. I came across some old ruins, and I wanted to locate the original buildings and try and name them and their habitants and put some history together about this lost community. Any old maps of this area would be useful.

Hi carlingford,
There is a brilliant book 'The History of Freckleton' by Peter Shakeshaft published in 2001.  ISBN 1-85936-084-X
I'm sure you would find it interesting. It was £20 when I bought it as I know Peter and that he did very thorough research. If you don't want to buy it I'm sure you could get it from the library on inter- library loan.
