Harry LADYMAN bc 1883
« on: Sunday 11 January 09 23:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I am trying to trace Harry Ladyman b1883, anyone able to help at all? He married Susannah Ruth Powell and had 3 children, Irene, Reginald and Theresa. I am stuck with Harry and went off on a tangent thinking I was looking for James!

Thanks,

Hi airdman

Welcome to Rootschat, I am sure that you'll find lots of help here.

Firstly, I am not sure if you have any Census information for your Harry LADYMAN, so I have found what I think is the right person for you....

1891 Census England Buckinghamshire Steeple Claydon
RG12/1155/79/11
Church End

LADYMAN
James Head Marr 42 Agricultural Labourer Bucks Steeple Claydon
Sarah E Sister Marr 50 Bed Ridden Bucks Steeple Claydon
Emily Sister Unmarr 33 Housekeeper Bucks Steeple Claydon
Frederick W Nephew Unmarr 13 Agricultural Labourer Derby Summer Coates
Florence R E Neice Unmarr 12 Buckingham
Harry Nephew Unmarr 8 Scholar Buckingham

If Frederick, Florence and Harry are siblings, then I should be able to find the two eldest together in the 1881 Census.

In 1881, Florence Ladyman aged 3 is in the Union Workhouse in Bucks.  There is also a 21 yr old Eliza Ladyman unmarried b Steeple Claydon in the same Workhouse

Hi Carole and Karen,

Thanks for such a quick response! If the Harry (nephew in the 1891 census) is who I am looking for, then I can assume that I can then trace his maternal grandfather through his uncle he is staying with. His mother I am guessing is the unmarried sister in 1891 and also the one listed in the workhouse.

The only reference to Harry after 1891 I have seen is his marriage to my great gran Susannah Ruth Powell, I know he died in about 1919/20 of trauma caused by WW1 action, so my Dad says. I'll carry on looking at his uncles line when I am back from hols, thanks again for your help.

This is his death registration

Deaths September qtr 1918

Harry  Ladyman aged 29  Edmonton  3a 516

However - that age puts a whole new light on things if it is the right Harry Ladyman as it puts his birthyear around 1888/1889

He would still have been old enough to marry in 1908

The first 2 children were b Edmonton - Teresa & Irene - but Reginald was registered in Wycombe in 1913

Hi,

That's definitely him but I can't find him on the 1891 census and have no idea where to go now. How about trying to get a copy of his birth cert? Would that have both parents names on it? With such a rare surname you would think I'd have no trouble tracing my family! The nearest seems the hardest to find!!

Thanks again

Hi

The 1891 details are shown above.  If you want to buy a copy of his birth cert - you can do so online at
www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

The cost is £7 and the reference is as shown above

With his age at death being 29 so b @1888/1889 is it possible he is "another" Harry and not the Bucks born one?

Other Harrys born in those years..
              William Harry Ladyman    1890 Wycombe
               Harry Ladyman               1888 Birkenhead.
               Harry Ladyman               1889 Hendon.

Do you have his marriage cert to Susannah?  Who does it name as father or witnesses.

I don't have a marriage cert, but he must be the 1889 Harry as his death ties in with known family events and his children are correct. Just noticed an entry on the 1901 census for him aged 12 living in Shoreditch. Still no family details though!
