Cemetery Help Please *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 12 January 09 21:50 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

My paternal greatgrandmothers grandfather John Adam came from Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton.

I was wondering if there are any cemeteries from Dunbarton that are on line, that I can search for deaths?

SP I am finding very very expensive and quite often I click on something to search and taken right back to the sign in page again.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi KHP, I'll leave the question about the specific cemetery unanswered because I don't know enough!  I doubt there are any detailed records online.  apanderson knows the area and will probably respond when she sees your thread (or PM her, I'm sure she wont mind).  I think she has a number of MI's for Kirkintilloch.

Although John Adam came from Kirkintilloch, if you're looking for his death, do you have info on where he lived later in life, eg at marriage and/or at the birth of the youngest child.  It might be more appropriate to look elsewhere and knowing where he lived might narrow down potential cemeteries.  What era are we looking at?

As for SP, there are some great tips from David Douglas here
http://www.rootschat.com/links/041v/
I strongly recommend reading that thread.
Make as much use of each credit as you can.

SP has been timing me out a lot quicker than it used to.  As far as I've noticed, it seems to happen more often if I have several tabs / windows open and am jumping back and forth.
However, that should not cost you any extra.  If you been in the middle of a search and you are timed out, once you've signed on again, you can look at "previous searches".  If you have been charged, they will be there.

Hi Dave,

Sorry to be so vague in my post. Embarrassed

This is all I have on the Adam Family.    I have the marriage of Margaret and Janet ... and at this stage will just ignore them for the time being.

I thought that with more and more information becoming available I might at least find something new to add.

JOHN ADAM  He married MARGARET FERGUS, daughter of JOHN FERGUS and MARGARET PAROT.  She was born 1774 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton.

More About JOHN ADAM:
Occupation: Candlemaker

More About MARGARET FERGUS:
Baptism: 6 November 1774, Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton

Children of JOHN ADAM and MARGARET FERGUS are:
i.   WILLIAM2 ADAM, b. 1794, Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton.

More About WILLIAM ADAM:

ii.   MARGARET ADAM, b. 1796, Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton; d. Aft. 1871.
iii.            THOMAS ADAM, b. 1803, Beith, Ayrshire; d. 1855, Glasgow High, Lanarkshire.
iv.            JOHN ADAM, b. 1808, Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton; m. (1) UNKNOWN, Bef. 1851; d. Bef. 1871; m. (2) ELIZABETH, Bet. 1871 - 1881, Glasgow; b. Abt. 1826, Glasgow.

More About JOHN ADAM:

vi.MARY ADAM, b. 1814, Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton.

Thanks for the tips about SP and will certainly read it thoroughly.

Cheers

I can't help KHP.
Sad

I've spent (a wee bit of) time looking on SP, no doubt duplicating your own research.
However, no success.

I hope Anne or another with access to MIs in the area will turn up trumps for you.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for doing that Dave, I had another look as well, (found all my previous searches  Grin Grin)
but I think this family are well and truly hidden.

But hey you may never know in another 20 years they may surface.

Did I see your light on in the small wee hours?

Cheers

Almost certainly!  I've been awake all but 5 or 6 hours since Friday!
I can't even bore myself to sleep!

Counting sheep doesn't work for me.
I hate their sharp teeth and wings and that turning into bats thing!  Scary!!

Oh, sorry, you said sheep....

I thought for a second you said squirrells.

Humid!?  It's freezing here!

As for avatar / 'Brigton', have we compared families before?  Apologies if we have and I've forgotten.
