Getting nowhere fast - LEAH, Altrincham post-1911
« on: Wednesday 14 January 09 13:13 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I've now managed to trace my first cousins once removed as far as the 1911 census and have found who 3 of them 4 married. However, I can only find one birth between the 3 of them. A*try is playing up so it's proving even more difficult.

This is what I have:

Parents
- James Leah and Mary Jane Wilson  - m. Jun q 1883, Altrincham - living Altrincham in 1911

Children
Robert William W b. Jun q. 1884, Altrincham. Married Edith Alice Bradburn Sept q. 1908 - living Altringham in 1911 - can't find any children to this pair. A possible WW1 medal card - Lancs Regiment.
No children found

James Frederick b. Dec q 1888, Altrincham. Married Lucy Millicent Bowdler March q, 1910, Chesterfield - living Brimington, Derbys in 1911. Medal card found - Notts and Derbyshire Regiment. No children found.

Mabel b.Dec q 1891, Altrincham. With parents in 1911, unmarried. No marriage info found.

Maud b. Dec q 1897, Altrincham. With parents in 1911. Married James Hollingsworth Dec q 1919, Bucklow (Altrincham). One female child found Mar q, 1927 Bucklow

I'd be grateful for any information on the four children and their descendants after 1911. I have the full FH before that date.

Please don't post any names of possible living people - contact me by PM

Thanks

Thanks Suz, that will definitely be her - couldn't get in to A*try this morning.

I know of one other person, who is a member of this forum but who hasn't posted, who contacted me a few years back. Interestingly, the family didn't know of Mary Jane Wilson's brother and the Scottish connections.

Gadget - I've looked at Cheshire BMD births Leah registered Trafford (ie Altrincham, Bucklow etc) & found the same as suzard. There are a couple earlier in the area pre the dates when the mother's maiden name is on the index, but these should be on the 1911 or at least their births should be counted.

It would probably be worth doing the same exercise with the daughters' married names & comparing with FreeBMD or the images on there.

Thanks  Smiley

I've been through the FreeBMDs a few times now. I may have missed an odd one but they should all be post 1911 census births (wives of married males down as no births) and the two daughters are still single and with parents. No record of WW1 deaths for the men.

So we now have 2 birth regs that look definite (1916 and 1927). I'm not sure how complete the 1920s are on FreeBMD but 2 doesn't seem much does it  Undecided
