Birth, Omagh ?
« on: Thursday 15 January 09 22:06 UTC (UK) »

Would someone be really kind to me by helping me to find the birth of Abraham Little born in Omagh, County Tyrone 1863-1865, before I go mad. Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Abraham was the son of William Little a Carpenter/Smith

As I explained on the 2nd thread in November:
"Finding Abraham's marriage, most likely in England, should give you his father's name but to search for records in Ireland you will really need more information like the family's religion (to check church records) and where they lived (parish if not actual townland not just 'Tyrone').
Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864, around the time of Abraham's supposed birth. If he was born before 1864 there will be no birth certificate for him. At the start of registration many births were not registered so even if he was born 1864 or a little later there may be no certificate.
For earlier dates you need to search for church records, if they exist.
Even if you locate a birth/baptism record for an Abraham Little born c1864 you have no way of knowing for sure it is the correct person without some corroborative details."

A townland (not township) is the smallest division of land in Ireland.

To understand what townlands are and why they are so important:
www.ulsterancestry.com/ulster_townlands_by_county.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Townland
www.ulsterplacenames.org/celebrating_ulster's_townlands_exhibition.htm

See www.seanruad.com to find details of townlands and parishes in Ireland (be sure to change default setting from exact match to search for part of a word).

Omagh is a town and also the name of a townland in the civil parish of Drumragh. Omagh when given as a person's residence or birthplace can also refer to the area around the town.

To find church records you need to know what religion the family were: Roman Catholic, Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, etc. and then see if the church records for the right period exist.
