How do I find out if a marriage cert still exists?

I have the date and place of the marriage between Edward McAlister and Catherine Ryan from parish records.

 How do I find out if there marriage cert is in existence, without ordering it and paying for it first?

They married in Cooley in 1876.

Are you trying to find the church record or the civil record of the marriage? GRO, Dublin should have the civil marriage certificate and it can be ordered- only problem might be that McAlister is under another spelling like McAllister, McCallister, etc.

Civil Record.  I read somewhere that some had been destroyed in 1922?
Is this straight in with a request for a cert - no indexes to check spellings?

Index to marriages not available online. The civil birth, death and marriage records were not destroyed.

Just remember that marriage certificate will not list the mothers' names but should list the names of occupations of the fathers.
