Peter Doyle, Mullingar
« on: Wednesday 14 January 09 13:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone...

I know it's a long shot but I have finally managed, after years of searching, to find the area of Ireland that some of my ancestors came from ... thanks to the 1911 census, yippee!!

Peter Doyle (son of James), born circa 1849, lists Mulingar, West Meath as his place of birth. Peter married Mary Burke who was born circa 1853 in County Galway. Mary was the daughter of Richard and Bridget Burke, both born circa 1820.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Mulingar was a tiny little place with just one church? And if a Rootschat member had access to the parish records or an interest in people of the same name?? Sigh ...

As always, any help or advice would be much appreciated
Regards, Julie

Hi Julie, as you may know Mullingar isn't really a small village (sadly for you) it's a large town, but something I have notice in Griffiths Valuation is there is a Peter Doyle listed for Killucan which is a bout 10 miles from Mullingar, thinking along the lines how common it was where Irish families often named there children after father's father, shot in the dark but could that be James father, Peter's Grandfather? Once again Killucan is a very large parish ,If I hit on anything else will get back to you ,regards Nipy
