Silly me about the directory - I need to get my eyes tested!  At least Jane doesn't seem to be in a menage a trois in 1876!

I see that the IGI entries are submitted by a member of the Mormon church, not extracted from the registers.  As they've got the fields mixed up too, I would doubt their reliability... though anyone can make mistakes Embarrassed

Hi,

Regarding the John Cumlin death in 1891 at Blackburn.  On Lancashirebmd it states it was registered in the sub district of Darwen.  Darwen is where son Benjamin was living in the 1881 and 1891 census.  Have you got his death certificate?    I am only asking as I did find a snippet in the Liverpool Echo regarding a James Cumlin death in April, 1891 in Darwen.  O.K. I know the first name is incorrect but there isn`t a James Cumlin registered so they may have got his first name wrong.  It does say he was an Army Pensioner.

It`s perhaps a bit sensitive so I don`t think I should post it unless you want me to.  I can PM it instead if you don`t have it.

Regards,
Mo

mosiefish,

In 1881 at 56 Exchange St, Over Darwen, Lancs lived:
- Benjamin Cumlin, head, 28, b.Manchester, Labourer
- Martha Cumlin, wife, 26, b.Salford, Lancs
- John Cumlin, son, 7, b.Manchester, scholar
- Margaret Cumlin, dau, 4, b.Manchester, scholar
- James Cumlin, son, 5months, b.Darwen

I don't know where they were in 1891.

I haven't got John Cumlin's death certificate in the June quarter of 1891 aged 60. May be I should send off for it.

Thanks Wozzle, although that has put a spanner in the works.

I had it that John Cumlin married Jane Irlam in Manchester, St John in 1849. Your record shows John Cumlin being unmarried in 1861. There was a deal of soldering in the Cumlin family, and so being a soldier in 1861 would have fitted.
Hi
1st post on here.
I am pretty sure the  John Cumlin born 1859 is the John Cumlin who turns up in Glasgow about 1881 marries a Rachel Locke from Wales and starts a family in Scotland.
