Christiana Williams Wrexham 1846
« on: Wednesday 21 January 09 17:07 UTC (UK) »

Hi
Please Could anybody help me with the below
Could anybody find a marriage of John and Christiana and any children they may have had.

On the 1851 Christiana 1846 was with  her grandparents they were listed as John Williams, aged 63 , b. Cheshire, Cuddington (?) and Christiana Williams, aged 65, b. Cheshire, Hampton (?) .
May be this should be on Shropshire!!  not sure
Any info would be great I will also post on Shropshire.
Just a thought John would have been born around 1788 and Christiana the elder would have been around 1786

Thanks Val

Hello Val,

Just to confirm that Cuddington is in Cheshire, it is near Delamere, sort of Middlewich/Sandiway area. Also, that Hampton is in Cheshire too. This is in south Cheshire and the nearest place of size is Malpas.

I did find a marriage on the IGI this was for John Williams and Christian Welch in St Oswald, Malpas on 12/11/1813. The name is not quite right but looks a strong possibility. Malpas would be near to the bride's parish.

Hope this helps you for a start.

Hi

Thanks for info I think that sounds correct now I need to find them on 1841 cencus for any children but maybe they would have left home by then if John and Christian married in 1813 not sure where to look for children any ideas.

Hi Jo

Just to add to this post as I've been helping Val get this far, I took the Cuddington to be the one referred to here:

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/cuddington1.html

as the one near Malpas rather than the Weaverham one

Hi Val

I'm not sure whether you've seen the patron submission baptism on the IGI ~

Baptism, 8 March 1828, St Oswald, Malpas - Sarah Williams. Parents - John Williams and Christiana

It will need checking against the parish registers.

Hello again,

The IGI also has 2 further baptisms, both Malpas, St Oswald.

26/01/1817 George Williams, son of John and Christian Williams.
18/08/1822 John Williams, son of John and Christian Williams.

These were entered by an LDS member. they need to be verified with the Parish Registers.

I have looked at the PRs for Malpas for Williams baptisms myself. I recall that there were very many of these. I take it that it is as Malpas is relatively close to the Welsh borders.

There appear to be Welch children baptised in the 1820s by Thomas and Mary Welch.

Hi Val,

I don't know if this is any help to you, but www.freereg.org.uk have transcribed the Malpas PR's from 1820 - 1829.

Hi Val

I know this thread is a bit old but I came across it and recognized the name. Christiana Williams was mentioned in a will I ordered and transcribed last year.

Christiana I believe came from the Cuddington Heath village near Malpas, was baptized at St Oswalds,Malpas and married to John Fowles at Threapwood in 1870. Her mother was Sarah Williams who later married my GGG grandfather William Powell. In fact William is mentioned as her father on the Threapwood marriage record. John Fowles died relatively young in 1886 aged 40 and Christiana died in 1897, as they're not directly connected I've not ordered their certificates but I have the references if you need it. Apologies if you've already worked all this out.

Regards

Hi Val

I've not got a huge amount of information on her as I only came to know about her existence through my GGGG grandfather Joseph Powell's will where it named her Christiana Fowles.

Its by checking Fowles and her christian name for marriages that I came up with her maiden name and then recognizing the Williams surname realized she was probably the illegitimate child of Sarah Williams who married my GGG grandfather William Powell in 1848, and hence why she was in the will. Perhaps if William hadn't died in an agricultural accident in 1866 the grandchildren wouldn't have been mentioned in the will and I would probably still not know of her existence. Anyhow, I'm sure you've got these details but here are her census details, I'll post the certificate references later:

Thomas FOWLES 9, Son, Threapwood, Scholar
Joseph FOWLES 6, Son, Threapwood, Scholar

Hi
Thanks for info the only thing I cant make out is same girl had two previous kids out of wedlock  Sarah  Ann 1867 and Martha Ellen born 1865 these 2 ended up living with a family of Dultons in  shropshire. This is a mystery as to why. 1871 with the Dulsons as grandchildren aged 5 and 4. We were always told Christianna died about 1870 but maybe she was cast out. Also she was suposed to have had a sister who was older.

Thanks for info details so I can get fresh certs would be appreciated. This person not my relative but my boss Mary who is as interested as me.
Cheers
Val
