Hi Val

I've come across one of the daughters - Sarah Ann Williams listed as baptised at Malpas St Oswalds:

29/12/1867 - Sarah Ann WILLIAMS d. of   Christiana

Not come across Martha Ellen though, and I had thought Sarah was in 1871 living with her mother Christiana and her new husband:

1871 Census:
Living in Threapwood
John FOWLES 24, Head, Threapwood, Ag Labourer
Christiana FOWLES 24, Wife, Oldcastle
Sarah Ann FOWLES 3, Dau, Cuddington
John FOWLES 1, Son, Threapwood

and then in 1881 I thought she might be with her grandmother (my GGG grandmother who was originally married to William Powell before his death)

In 1881: (1 Chorlton Cottage)
William WELCH 39, Head, Malpas, Ag Lab
Sarah WELCH 50, Wife, Cuddington
Mary POWELL (WELCH), 20, Step Daur, Cuddington, Servant Out Of Employ
Sarah WELLIMS, 13, Niece, Cuddington

Thats an interesting comment about being told Christianna died c.1870. I'd be interested to hear the story behind that. Of course I believe her grandmother also called Christianna Williams died c. 1862 according to my records. Also seen no sign of an older illegitimate sister although I have got in my notes there was a James Williams born a year later to a Sarah Williams - strong possibility it is the same person but never seen him again. Interestingly, I've never found the death certificate for my GGG grandmother either, its been very frustrating this period.

Cheers

Iain

Hi
The tale how it goes is Christianna is 2 out of wedlock girls Sarah born Cuddington Martha Lea Hall Lodge Ash parveral!! Whitchurch. We know these are her daughters as Sarah is my Boss GGrandmother she married a guy called George Huxley Hough in 1888 Martha Married Henry Gregory in 1893 Christianna sister was app Elizebeth but going by the name of Dulson!! We were told by my boss Mother that is 90 next week and can rem quite a bit, she died early of something horrible but not knowing what, but not found a death except one in the work house in Hollywell 1869 of tb but we were not convinced on that either. Like I said maybe she was shunned.
Not sure where the dulsons fit in, but boss mum said that they were with them and Sarah was her grandmother.
Any further info would be great if you dig anything up
The tale also goes that the father of christianna children was the son of the big house where she worked Cuddington Manor! but that is just gosip and we will never know that one, Cant think of the name atthe moment
had you seen this
On the 1851Cencus  Christiana 1846  was with  her grandparents they were listed as John Williams, aged 63 , b. Cheshire, Cuddington  and Christiana Williams, aged 65, b. Cheshire, Hampton (?) .

I have  a marriage on the IGI this was for John Williams and Christiana Welch in St Oswald, Malpas on 12/11/1813.  looks a strong possibility to Sarah Christiana's Mum Parents .Malpas would be near to the bride's parish of Hampton Cheshire.

Very interesting and very sad regarding the illegitimate children - girls in domestic service really were treated badly, I'm not surprised to hear this rumour.

Never seen the record of Martha but if she was born and baptised in Shropshire I have no easy access to those records. I had thought Sarah Ann Williams may have married Sydney Durose:
1891-5 - Sydney DUROSE & Sarah A WILLIAMS, Hoole, All Saints, Cheshire West - CE31/1/213
but hadn't checked this in the registers for a father as I've not been to Cheshire Archives for 12 months, so with your information I guess not.

However, have come across John Williams & Christiana Welch, this is the info I have on them:

Baptisms:
Christiana Welch - 05/04/1789, Malpas St Oswald
Too many John Williams, to make an educated deduction

Married:
John Williams & Christiana Welch - 12/11/1813 Malpas, St Oswald

Daughter Sarah Williams – Christiana’s mother bap. 08/03/1828 Malpas, St Oswald

Census Details:
1851 Census:
Living in Newton juxta Malpas
John WILLIAMS 63, Head, Cuddington Heath, Farm Labourer
Christiana WILLIAMS 65, Wife, Hampton
Christiana WILLIAMS 5, G-dau, Oldcastle, Scholar

1861 Census:
Living in Newton by Malpas
John WILLIAMS 74, Head, Newton, Ag Labourer
Christiana WILLIAMS 75, Wife, Hampton

Death Certificates
CHESHIREBMD:
1862 - Christiana WILLIAMS (73), Malpas, Cheshire West - MAL/2/35
FREEBMD:
Dec 1862 - Christiana WILLIAMS, District: Whitchurch, Vol: 6a, Pg: 483

CHESHIREBMD:
1861 - John WILLIAMS (73), Malpas, Cheshire West - MAL/2/1

Could you tell me when Martha Ellen was born or give me a clue as to how old their husbands were when they were married if you've got the certificate, and in turn Elizabeth Dulson are we saying she died as a child or later, I've seen a death record for 1852 in Wem district, but there is no age given.
