Hi can anyone tell has the Golden Ball Pub in Spalding always been called the Golden Ball? I'm looking for info on a couple that possibly ran the pub in the late 1940's early 50's. The couple where Joseph & Florence Patterson, Florence was the Licensee, she was a local from Spalding but Joseph was from Newcastle upon Tyne. Both Florence and Joseph had previously been married , her surname was Ward nee Woolsey. Florence had a daughter ............ If anyone could help it would be great

Hi Ainsley
You could always ring the new owners and see if they can help or they may put you in touch with the brewery that owns it

There was a Golden Ball in the 1872 directory, landlord William Francis, I live not far from it and first went in it around 1958 when the landlord was Sam ? can't remember his surname. After he retired a Jock & Flo Mitchell were there for a long time. They had previously kept the Barge on Commercial Road, Spalding. They have all passed away now. I doubt if the present landlord will be able to tell you a lot. It has changed hands several times since Jock & Flo and I have not visited it for several years. Regards Keith

Hi Keith,
Thank you for that information, I have a thread on a different sight about this topic and I got a reply saying there was a Flo that ran it. It was obviously that Flo they where talking about, as I know my Florence died in the 1950's.
I havent had chance yet to ring the present landlord, suppose maybe I was hoping that they maybe able to tell me where I could find some history on the place, maybe some old photo's . I'm not even sure if the couple I'm wanting info on actually ran the place I just know that when Florence died in the 50's her home adress was 8 River Bank Spalding, but I do know from information from my mother that she was the landlady of a pub in Spalding.
Regards Ainsley

Hi Ainsley, The Golden Ball address is River Bank, Spalding, not sure if it is No 8 as it's not in the phone book. Perhaps if you email me her daughters name I might even have known her if she is around my age. I was born in 1939. Perhaps she still lives locally. next time I am out I will take a photo of the pub for you and check the number. Regards Keith

Do you have any old photos of the Golden Ball? When I was landlady there I fell in love with the pub but couldn't find any other info on it. Flo was mentioned often in the pub. She was, as we all like to say, a legend in her own right and her presence is still there today.

Hi Caroline,
My cousin went to Spalding to visit the Golden Ball and she took some pics but unfortunately only one turned out, that was a pic of the pub itself.
I'll mail the pic to you later regards Dot
