1911 census for glamorgan.
« on: Thursday 22 January 09 00:37 UTC (UK) »

Can sanyone say when the 1911 census will be available for Glamorgan.  It seems so unfair to have to wait just because your forebears lived in Wales.

Yours not happy,

Rob. Embarrassed    Embarrassed

Hi Rob,

As far as I'm aware at the moment, there will be a 2 month wait before we get the 1911 census for Wales. However, as some English counties still have yet to publish their census returns I'm assuming that not all of the Welsh counties will be released together either. The county borders for Wales moved about a lot during those days so with Glamorganshire being the size it was it will probably  either be amongst the first or last to be published. Whatever happens, I'm guessing that 2 months wait might grow to 3 as they're running behind on the English returns. I hope that is of some help to you.

Regards,

I remember the 1901 coming out when I had just started doing my tree - I just couldn't believe how far back I got from that. The 1911 is going to be a godsend if my relatives have actually put down their birthplaces instead of just ''Ireland''.

It was very unclear when 1911 first went on-line that Wales would not be available.

I purchased credits mainly to look at Glamorgan, & am very annoyed that I could have hung on until it was! It really wasn't made plain in the Press that this was going to be the case...

I've been making do with the very few siblings of my direct lines who weren't in Wales at the time, but it's a very poor substitute. I'm so looking forward to seeing their writing and I might find out how many children my g-grandmother really had. My father claimed it was over 20!  Shocked

Hi All,

I have now had a reply form the 1911 Census Team to my query as to when Glamorganshire will come on-line. Although it says that my query 'has now been resolved', - it doesn't give a clear answer!

'Please accept our apologies for the delay of response - this was due to an unforeseen error.

I am afraid we have no set date for the completion of our records except to say that we hope to have everything complete by the spring of this year.

You can check our blog for updates and news - blog.1911census.co.uk'.

And so Glamorganshire will be 'live' on the 1911 possibly this Spring?

LOL...I'll second that Grin Grin

What still isn't clear is whether they're intending to put them on in the order that they have them listed on the site, -
[color=Purple]
The following counties and establishments are currently not available:

Wales:

Anglesey
Brecknockshire
Carnarvonshire
Cardiganshire
Carmarthenshire
Denbighshire
Flintshire
Glamorgan
Merionethshire
Montgomeryshire
Monmouthshire
Pembrokeshire
Radnorshire

England:

Durham
Cumberland
Northumberland
Westmorland
Yorkshire, East Riding and North Riding

If that is the case, - then its going to be very frustrating waiting for them to get to Glamorgan!!

I remember the 1901 coming out when I had just started doing my tree - I just couldn't believe how far back I got from that. The 1911 is going to be a godsend if my relatives have actually put down their birthplaces instead of just ''Ireland''.

My main ancestors are from Denbighshire, plus my blacksheep who migrated to Glamorganshire so I too am waiting impatiently for the Welsh Census to appear. I have however been successful in finding an English person who married into my line and it did indeed mention his father was from Dublin rather than just Ireland, so that has been very helpful in trying to trace him. Be aware it is very costly to use the census, and however many 'free searches' you do, you can still choose the wrong person. Many place names are also misspelt, especially Welsh ones so something else to watch out for.

Kind regards
